What really saddens me is that a man who helped eased his mothers pain was found guilty of attempted murder. None of his family closed ranks to protect him as they could not in their wildest dreams have thought he would face charges for his actions.
The other thing that really saddens me is the number of Maori who have left these shores and gone to Aussie where they are treated as Kiwis, not a separate race.

This statement hits the nail on the head - and will get the usual reply from the 'apologists' that they have been historically disadvantaged.
Lindsay has posted, as usual, a good piece on hard work and views of welfarism.
And it's all thanks to the left, thanks to them indigenous people get to live the way they used to back 100s of years ago. It never occurs to any of these grievance mongers that whoever you are, whatever tribe you are or some special people. Every single one of us has to bloody move on.
If you do xyz to get by and there comes a time when xyz can't sustain you or put food on the table, it's time to find something else. Every tribe, nation, people and race have to do it. if you cannot then you must fall. If all are equal then why do some have to be propped up all their lives, sounds like the bigotry of low, low expectations to me.
If you're looking for racists folks, look to your ideological left, they are the most disgusting SOBs i've ever come across. Deep down inside those scumbags actually think that the Maori and blacks and all the other minorities are simply incapable of adapting to a changing world. Can't bring the black fellow into the white mans city because he's too stupid.
Too much of a savage for us to expect him to work and be responsible for himself, throw some money at him because he's too stupid to work for it or hold a job. Instead of letting such people rise up by themselves and have the deserved pride for doing so, they do everything possible to keep him there in the village and the bush away from actual progress and a better quality of life.
That way he'll have nothing, be nothing, have nothing to pass onto his children and will have nothing he worked for himself and earned by himself to be proud of. That is how you really ruin a people.

I saw an interesting interview on TV the other day where an eminent judge (his name escapes me)said that Aborigines in Victoria and NSW who want "Aboriginal Law Courts" should basically pull their heads in as none (sic) live a traditional lifestyle so they are not entitled to traditional law. He went on to say that Australia has one law for all (not really true we know) but in essence correct. He did acknowledge that Aboriginals in the Northern remote regions require special treatment as some do live a more traditional lifestyle but as most southern Aborigines range in aboriginality from coffee coloured skin to caucasian (they ) are not entitled to any special dispensations for being so call Aboriginal.

Not being from NZ I cannot really comment on the nation or its policies. But we see the same here in the US. Welfare was first used as a helping hand to those who were out of work, it has become a lifestyle for many. There are families of 4 and 5 generations who have never worked a day in their lives and yet still have luxuries that I cannot afford.
Work is not a dirty 4-letter word. It is how the majority of people "earn" their money.

You cannot offer welfare in this day & age and expect it to not be abused. An "efficient" welfare state is a pipe dream, folks.
