Gravatar Carolyn, your recipes are amazing!

Gravatar I have been reading about all these industrious food bloggers making jams and stuff with their summer bounty. but at last! an idea that shouts my name: steep the fruit in alcohol. oh yes!

Gravatar Isn't that the principle behind Rumtopf? Never heard the name "bachelor's jam" but it certainly fits.

Gravatar Thank you, Elvira, it is fun to drag out the old ways of doing things.

Sam, you will LOVE this "Jam!"

Ana, I had never heard of rumtopf, but is identical to confiture--except for the alcohol. I have only seen it done in glass, but I found rumtopf jars of stoneware that would be ideal in which to use a saucer to keep the fruit submerged to keep it fermenting properly. Thanks for the new name and the use of rum, too.

Gravatar Thanks for reminding me! [writes note to go buy cherries]
