Amen, turn the darn thing off. I have made a request to my wife that when I come home, the TV is off and stays off until after baths. We listen to music instead. It seems to help.
I know what you mean about being different. My three kids are like night and day from eachother. The poor middle one is going through it right now. If I ever get paid for my work I did, we can go forward with the adoption and he wont be the middle child any more!

Instituted new policy this evening. Oldest daughter must read 2 books to me and middle kid before she can watch any TV.
Tonight's selections: Parts, and More Parts.
This was command decision. OPORD forthcoming.
Household 5, out.

Interesting take. I can't speak as a parent yet (thankfully), but I do know that my sister and I are incredibly different.
As far as the TV thing goes, I doubt it will matter much. My sister and I watched quite a bit growing up, more than we ever read, that's for sure. Sure, I had the Hardy Boys and she had Sweet Valley High but it wasn't until high school or college that either one of us developed any sort of personal library. And we both turned out alright...
