I've found I can get away with pretty much anything instrumental. Most major orchestras have CD's out and the variety of music that they play is huge, its not all just classical, plus the songs are often quite long. To bad you can't do headphones though, I don't think I'd make it through my lunch if I couldn't!

Hmm. I would just try, in as polite a manner as possible, to ask him to tone it down a little with the chomping. He's probably just clueless that it's bugging you so much.
If it does not work, at least you can say that you tried, instead of just suffering and being annoyed..
That is too bad about the headphones. That is weird you can listen to music, but no headphones?
Where I am it's the opposite, you can listen to music, but it is considered courtesy to wear headphones so as not to bother other people around you.
Can you take your lunch break at a different time maybe? Or maybe if everybody's at lunch at the same time, you can play the music a little louder during that time, since everybody's on break anyway. Or, you could maybe eat outside if there is a picnic table or something? That's all I got. Wish I could help!

Oh my god Kali I used to work with a guy who would clip his fingernails in meetings with like 10 other people. Totally gross. Do that shit at home dude I don't want to watch you clip your fingernails.
That guy was on 'The List' as a known non-handwasher after going to the bathroom as well. People suck.

B&W, the problem is that was both eat lunch at our desks and our desks are very close to one another.
I probably should just tell him, but I don't know how one politely tells another person that the sound of them eating makes you want to electrocute them.

I had no idea there were so many nail clippers in the world!
I work in cube world, and we had a guy that would sit in his corner cube clipping away. His nails gave off this thick, brittle sound -- as if he was clipping the plastic trays that Lunchables come in.
He also fell asleep in there. In his cube. Where everyone could see. And he'd end up drooling.
Obviously, he was fired.
Anyway, Cullen, as far as music goes? I suggest 70s love songs.
You wear earplugs, and he slowly goes insane.

Yeah I hear ya, but if you don't say something it will probably never stop. Maybe wait and do it first thing in the morning before he starts annoying you at lunch... The only other things I can think of is to maybe take a short walk while he eats his lunch or maybe eat out in your car or something. Sorry dude!

Oh god, my younger brother does the same thing when he eats. Luckily, I'm in a position to boss him around, so I order him to eat like a human and not a pig feeding from a trough whenever I'm around.
