Gravatar Surely, then מסך is related in the weaving. How about a little metathesis? What about a מכסה?

Gravatar It's certainly possible that there's a metathesis there, but I don't have any sources that confirm it (and Klein has different etymologies for each word.)

Gravatar For a discussion of the etymology see Daniel Sperber, Minhagei Yisrael, vol. 6, page 196, note. 10.

Gravatar Didn't the League of Nations Mandate of 1922 have an article that mandate that there be THREE official languages in the Jewish National Home: English, Hebrew, and Arabic? Considering that English is the native language of half the remaining Jews who still live in the diaspora, shouldn't Israel do more to implement English alongside Hebrew and Arabic within the legal and social frameworks, and other processes, just as French and English both coexist almost equally in Canada? It would be a serious boost to aliya if Americans could comfortably get jobs and understand contracts immediately, rather than have to suffer for years until they have a rudimentary knowledge of Hebrew? Thank you.
