If you go to the Academy for Hebrew Language they have a display case in the entrance with a few interesting examples of letters which they have been sent over the years. I seem to recall seeing one from Pres. Ben-Tzvi or Katzir, I forgot which one, protesting the use of Sefaradim for Jews from North Africa, etc. He said that this was in reality saying that they are "Hispanics" which was untrue. I forgot what was his suggestion for a better option.
