Gravatar "Daughter" in Aramaic is brat. Heh.

Gravatar It only gets more confusing because "brat" in Russian means "brother". Woe to Russian Aramaic speakers for their strange familial relations!

Gravatar Steg - I had seen that transliteration of yours in a comment on another blog, and davka chose "berat" for mine ...

Joel - You bring up an interesting point. The Russian "brat" is obviously related to the English "brother", and there are many cognates in Indo-European languages (see here: http://www.etymonline.com/index....hp? term=brother ).

Klein says the Aramaic switch from "ben" to "bar" is difficult to explain. Perhaps an IE language, like Persian, had some influence here?

Gravatar i think the b'vat is discussed in bvd.
