I remember reading this book back in 6th grade (early 1980s), it was on a bookshelf in the beis medrash in my day school. Apparently, a haredi teacher at this particular yeshiva day school (which was a officially Modern Orthodox school that employed a lot of more haredi-type melamdim who employed that type of pedagogical method) had heavily annotated it at some point, underlining passages which he thought were apikorsut and which were not! I don't know which teacher did this, maybe it was someone before my time. He thought things in it were heresy such as the "outlandish" idea that the holy language might have evolved--he objected to the idea of a natural evolution of Hebrew, because everybody knew God Hismelf created the holy tongue! AT least he didn't tear pages out. But I was impressionable myself at that age, and felt like the book was dangerous!
