Very interesting post.
Allegory actually comes from 'alla agoreyein' = 'to say other things', 'to speak of different things'.
P.S. I didn't mean to be a nitpick but sometimes I tend to be a language-geek (that's probably one of the reasons why I enjoy reading your blog)

As far as allegory, I think we're both right. This is the Online Etymology Dictionary's entry:
