Gravatar agoraphobia - "fear of open spaces"

i always thought it meant "fear of hyperinflation in Israel" ;-)

Gravatar Cute...

Gravatar Very interesting post.
Allegory actually comes from 'alla agoreyein' = 'to say other things', 'to speak of different things'.

P.S. I didn't mean to be a nitpick but sometimes I tend to be a language-geek (that's probably one of the reasons why I enjoy reading your blog)

Gravatar Agostino -

Don't worry about being a nitpick - that's why I write this thing in the first place...

As far as allegory, I think we're both right. This is the Online Etymology Dictionary's entry:

http://www.etymonline.com/index....p? term=allegory

1382, from O.Fr. allegorie, from L. allegoria, from Gk. allegoria "description of one thing under the image of another," from allos "another, different" (see alias) + agoreuein "speak openly, speak in the assembly," from agora "assembly."

Gravatar How would you translate the idea of "Sanegoram Shel Yisrael" into English?

Gravatar Defender of Israel?

Gravatar Many Thanks!
