term=cress

The best manuscripts of the Mishna read karatan. The word is borrowed into Mishnaic Hebrew from Aramaic (kara:ta:,with the closing of the final /a/ vowel as in Hebrew ka:n from Aramaic ka:), hence the taw. Arabic kurraath.
