Gravatar Bottle Rocket! (do i win a prize?) I be prayin' for you guys...for a safe, and hopefully non-anxious, (yeah right) trip across to the C. R.

Gravatar What's with all of this America bashing I've read on various blogs. Why do you use the adjective "arrogant" American. Are you an arrogant American? If you are not, then maybe you should just say you are going to a culture class so it isn't obvious you are an American.

I have worked with an arrogant Indian (as in the country, not a Native American), and arrogant Asian, an arrogant French person, and last but not least an arrogant Japanese fellow. And that was a personal problem, not a country identity. So unless the adjective truly describes you personally, please do not apply it to the culture as a whole.

Just a major pet peeve of mine.

I still love you, brother.

Gravatar actually justin, i'm completely in agreement with you. I was really using "arrogant" because it is so widely used by bloggers in reference to americans, even when it's unwarranted and untrue. i do think some americans are incredibly arrogant, but like you said, that's a personal thing and not necessarily anything inherent in your country of origin. i'm as proud as they come to be an american!

Gravatar Manalive! I wish I'd seen this before Kendra so I could win the Bottle Rocket prize...does the fact that I'm tryin' to do it for ya doin' it for ya?

Gravatar You have to get up pretty early, my friend....

Gravatar So, Mike, to come to your defense, I had to chuckle a bit at: "Now I must go to cultural class so it won't be obvious that I'm an arrogant american," because your tone makes me think it's something you don't want to work on. However, the irony is that I know you do. I see you two as looking very holistically at your 'mission'for the next year, at the way it will shape your marriage and career plans, your view of the world. And mission even seems too narrow, for I see you as open to what God will show you, and maybe you'll be learning as much from the Eastern Europeans as they are from you. What a remarkable thought. Anyway, forgive my rhetorical analysis of your blog, you understand the curse, but I read a totally different message into your one liner about the 'arrogant american.' Cheers, and, keep on keepin on.

Gravatar thanks kenner

...and brent gets the consolation prize.

Gravatar What are y'all talkin about???? I am proud and if I'm arrogant it is not because I'm an American. I think you and Katie are two of the least arrogant people I have ever met in my long 63 years......Besides, what is in your heart is what will come out in your actions and words, and in my opinion, that is "To live for Christ and die for Him if necessary, and in the meantime share His love and Grace with all you meet." I love you so much.....Wow, 17-18 more days????? How time flies when you're having fun.....Love, Nana
