Gravatar I agree wholeheartedly.

Though I can't really say I'm religious, I was brought up in a vaguely Lutheran household, so I'm fairly much part of the "oppressing Merry Christmas crowd". Would I be annoyed or feel pressurised if someone wished me Happy Chanukkah or Happy Kwanzaa??? No... I'd be happy that someone cared enough to wish me that. Why would I get wound up about it?

Ach... Sorry, Anne... You've hit a bête noire of mine. I just wish that people wouldn't get so wound-up and self-righteous about these things.

Merry Christmas!!

Gravatar I don't think people are afraid to say "Merry Christmas". They may just be choosing to be inclusive rather than Christian normative.

You may think you're saying happy December 25th, but everyone knows that that day is symbolic of the birth of Jesus, so you can't quite pretend otherwise.

Gravatar Yep, that is what the holiday is for (the birth of Jesus).

I still don't get why people get offended that I would wish them a happy version of MY holiday. Whether or not they choose to celebrate it themselves.

People need to lighten up a bit.

Gravatar Anne

Well it's about time SOMEONE said it! Jeez. Merry Christmas. Exactly. That's what you say, if that's what you're celebrating.

Happy Chanukah. That's what you say, if that's what you're celebrating.

Great Day for a Moon Prayer. That's what you say.....

So say what you need to say and stop bitching. Honestly. There' are so many other things in the world that are far more important.

Gravatar I wrote up a similar post for my own blog, but it's kinda the opposite. I'm amazed at the stink the Conservatives have raised over corporations saying 'Happy Holidays' instead of 'Merry Christmas'. A lot of corporations are trying to be more tolerant of people outside the Christain majority...showing tolerance to those with different faiths and cultures. I think it's good. Am I going to be offended if someone says 'Merry Christmas' to me...nope, but I'm not going to be offended if someone says 'Happy Holidays' to me either. In fact, I'd rather wish them a Merry Breastmas and a Happy Boob Year.

Merry Chrismahanukwanzakah!!!!
