Hi Stefan --
Glad that I wasn't the only person who saw lesbian undertones in the two main female's relationship! That lingering look that Kitty Zhang first gives Kou... oh my! ;b

I watched this on the plane (along with about 3 other movies) with some vague form of expectation, and the movie really fell flat on its face. I absolutely agree with the key point that it just tries to be too many things at once, and ends up being nothing (is this an appropriate moment to shout out Much Ado about Nothing?)
There were some good moments imho (let me think hard, there were definitely some) that made me think the film could be rescued. The last act completely destroyed that naive belief. What on earth were they thinking? I would have been quite happy with a decent fight scene without the whole moral cleansing and tower of angst at the end.
The two supporting characters from the original film (sorry to say) were useless and both of them stuck out like a sore thumb, and whilst there was eye-candy (boys and girls), the acting made me want to weep at times (wobbly chin + steely gaze + nod of determination = nono) The film definitely wins first prize for being anti-climatic, I've never seen anything quite this bad for a long time, except perhaps Legend of Zu.
If they ever do remake the film, they definitely need to re-write the story.
p/s: And yes, I wanted to tear my hair out when I heard the chief monk speak Chinese at the start. Guess they didn't have the funds/couldn't find anyone to play a wise-looking old Chinese monk. Does Kitty Zhang actually speak Japanese? I wonder if the Japanese viewers had the same reaction?
p/s2: Oh and on the lesbian undertones, I got that vibe too (for the first time ever) Pity they didn't give her more of a part to play at the end, and she really did end up being the flower vase as per the review. I was thinking she would actually be the light/knight in shining armour, but it wasn't to be.

Man, this film was a letdown. The story never went anywhere, what it needed was a lesbian scene with all the Lacrosse players, eating pussy and fisting each other.
I still rubbed one out everytime Kou was onscreen.
