Dan!!!! I knew there was a reason why I had not dropped you from my blog reader. I can't wait to see what you do next. I have missed your presence in the blogosphere so much. And things have been up and down for me.
(For the rest of y'all, Dan was one of my very first readers.)
Zombie Mom If I find the Circus Cookies, I will be sure to pick up a bag for your family as well. I guess I didn't mention the whole thing to you over this weekend because I thought that you already knew. Hmmm. I think I might just know a store that has the Circus Cookies now that I think about it. But I'm not going to tell the location here. I'm not that crazy.

Dags - sorry the Commander hung up on you - biaotch....
Hey, get me a few bags if you find them- I will repay you no matter what the cost.... I had no idea.. see what happens when you become a zombie- reallly, really, important stuff passes you by.
As kids we never evah got sugar- but occasionally my dad would get us the circus cookies when we would go skiing without my mom and the coating would freeze and the little balls would be especially hard and fabulous... I swear at least five of my extra 70 pounds were dedicated to those cookies....
As I said, zombie dad is a tea cookie guy. For more than ten years when he is sick I buy him the Mother's tea cookies..
I will stop lamenting- but had I known, I would have been packing the cookie calories the past few years... Pshaw on the seventy pounds lost..
Cannot wait to hang out with cocktails... my god, my kids were horrible last night... you are a brave soul...
kisses

Sizzle That's exactly how I felt when I heard the news. Frankly, it was worse than hearing that there is no Santa Claus.
Zombie Mom This is way important stuff. I mean, how will your girls turn out if they never know the joy of Mother's? I'm now really frightened of the future of the world.
And I knew that beyotch had hung up on me. I should not have been fooled by her niceness yesterday. Then again, she did try to send me to the pillow. And don't apologize. Remember that I am used to spending time with 15-30 little people at a time. Next time we see Jade, ask her about the day I picked up my letter of rec from her for teaching. I believe her kids were 2 and 3 at the time, or really close to those ages.

Hmm... I already chronicled my desire for Circus Cookies. I don't suppose you'll share your source with me? Pretty please? I posted a link to Mother's wikipedia site and they had the holiday ones and I almost drooled on the screen at the red and green goodness.

Daniel Not on MSN these days. I think I was once. And I never did the Facebook thing. Folks keep trying to talk me into it.
Fluffycat I have emailed you the location.
Cookiecrumb LOL. But isn't it better to eat paraffin than paste?

LisaB That Daniel got me confused and all. My deepest apologies.
I must admit that the cookies have not been as much a part of my adult years as they were my childhood. Now I regret it. *sniff*

It's been so sad to read everyone' s reaction to this...
Funny how certain foods are so associated to our childhood eh?

Nat It's like losing an old family friend. Out of all the various store-bought items, this is probably the strongest association I have to my childhood via food. The only other things that may come close were all those fine Dolly Madison and Hostess treats. Zingers, Twinkies, Ho Hos, Ding Dongs ... *sigh* If I was lucky, at least one of these items -- the cookies or the other items -- was included in my lunchbox (now rusted Peanuts lunchbox that is still at my mom's) for dessert.
Smell is supposed to be the strongest of trigger for memories, or so I've been told. I would guess that taste is right up there since the two are so closely linked. Of course, Cookiecrumb will tell you that eating is one of the few things that we do that engages all of our senses. OK. So she says cooking but ya know. (And yes, I have the scary kind of memory that can instantly recall a blogpost written over two years ago.)

Another memory ERASED. Ugh. How dare things CHANGE?
Back east, there's a pretty acceptable facsimile of Circus Animals cookies. So I hear.

New Age Bitch Change can be good but this is really bad change.
A substitute back east? I must get on the phone with my relatives there. Immediately. There are folks on eBay trying to sell bags starting at $8. Silly me did not clean the shelves last Friday night when I made my first purchase. I could have a substantial party fund.

I'm sorry for your childhood cookie loss...

What a great tribute post to a great cookie company. As you and I chatted over on my blog about this, I will miss these cookies. Going out to get more this week at a couple of other stores here in Salt Lake.
Circus Animal, Iced Oatmeal, those Shortbread stripped you have in your photo above... all of them, tasty treats. Sadness.

Suze As a kid if someone had told me this day would come, I probably would have laughed at them. Mother's was in business for over 100 years. And I feel your pain.
Marty You can still get the Circus Animal and Iced Oatmeal out there? They're completely sold out around here. We might need to have some more conversations.
