Gravatar I can help you clean out the hagen dazs in your freezer so you can get get back to food porn faster. Because I'm selfless like that...

Gravatar Suze You are so helpful. I was wondering if anyone would notice the ice cream. I think I can send them along to you. At least they are not the pints from Naia or Ciao Bella that are usually in the freezer. Actually the Naia hasn't been around for some time because for some reason they have stopped making the cardamom. But I highly recommend their mojito -- in small amounts. Bottom line. I love my butterfat.

Gravatar do u make home made ice cream

and i love the moon and think im a moon child

Gravatar Aw, Dags. I send you love and sympathy.
And darn, your freezer is neater than mine.
And as for conversations on race, I like to believe I don't even need to have them. How stupid is that? So thanks to you.

Gravatar The moon was awesome the other night.

I never really thought about privilege much because I felt some discrimination based on religion or looks, but from reading about it, it was really enlightening to me just how much worse things are for some people. It's probably easier to deny that such things don't exist, but it's pretty obvious to me that if you think about it for five minutes, that there is all kind of hate and prejudice in the world and that it's just easier to be a white upper-middle class man.

And sorry for your stepmom. It seems like the longer things go on, the worse they get. I hope she'll be able to pass peacefully.

Gravatar rawdawg I haven't made ice cream in years. I make a pretty good butter pecan.

And since I am a Cancer, I'm definitely a moon child.

Cookiecrumb I'd like to think that we don't need to anymore but then I get up in the morning and see stuff like this. *sigh*

Gravatar Cookiecrumb Also the freezer has to be neat. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to fit everything in.

Fluffycat Of course it's easier to be an upper middle class white male. They're the ones who made the rules after all. So it's time to rewrite them.

And thanks. I just wish the whole thing with the stepmother could just be over already.

Gravatar oh Dags....the news on your step mother isn't good....I feel for you and I'm praying for you. It aint easy...but I'm here if you need me.

and ya, I'll eat any kind of ice cream for you...ya know...so you don't have to. it's the least I can do really.

Gravatar Beth Thanks. The ice cream in the freezer currently is HD vanilla bean and some sort of berry sorbet. There may also be a pint of gelato hidden in the back.

Gravatar I see someone else stock piles English muffins also. I also think your post makes alot of sense! But if you move to Mexico ,can I come?

Gravatar Mistress Maddie I just plain stockpile. What you can't see in the photo are the 3-4 pounds of butter. My friend Marin often asks me if I'm sure that I'm not Mormon.

I would say that you are most welcome to come along to Mexico but I guess I should check with my mom first. It's already a big deal that she has said that I can bring the cats.

Gravatar I want to comment on this post I do. But I need to read all of the stuff... and my brain is full. Kind of like your freezer. I will return.

Gravatar Nat No worries. Take your time. The post isn't going anywhere.

Gravatar As I read (and enjoyed) your post, part of me was thinking "I bet those comments to the Tim Rice piece would make me crazy mad," while another part of me was thinking "even though I haven't commented, I'm probably one of those clueless people she's talking about."

Whichever is the case (probably both) what you say about open dialogue being the way to achieve change is something I definitely get. I actually wrote a post about some of this a couple of weeks ago: http://www.halfwaytonormal.com/?p=85 I realize I don't have it all right, all the time, but I want to learn and keep having conversations about difficult topics. It's the only way.

Thanks for doing your part, Dagny.

Gravatar Kristin T. Nah. If you haven't commented, then you weren't included.

And thanks for your honesty. I just think if we keep running away from the conversations that make us uncomfortable, then we'll never reach a point of resolution.

Gravatar I'm eating my way through my freezer right now as well. Who knew all that stuff was in there???

I'm so very sorry about your stepmother.

Gravatar LisaB Bet you're doing a better job on your freezer than I am on mine. And thank you for the other part. About the stepmother.

Gravatar Shoot! I bought the Fried Mozzarella sticks - but forgot the English Muffins - (both for Marissa) - while at Target yesterday! I should read (or look at) your blog before going to the store from now on.

I can't completely relate to the prejudices; however, as someone who grew up as "Latina" - and was a teen mom - I have been treated like shit due to stereotypes. What I can relate to is watching someone you love deteriorate over a period of time - and just waiting for the inevitable.

Gravatar BellaKarma LOL about the shopping.

And I think that having been the subject of people's stereotyping makes you completely capable of relating.
