Gravatar Yes, Obama’s separating himself from the Boomers was a central part of his original announcement and message, and it does give him a unique position to move the country past sixties-fueled culture wars.

Relevantly, his actual post-Boomer generation has gained attention through this. As numerous experts have pointed out, Obama is a member of Generation Jones–born 1954 to 1965, between the Boomers and Xers.

Here is a very relevant new video on exactly this topic: it has a ton of top pundits (e.g. Clarence Page, David Brooks, Karen Tumulty, Howard Wolfson, Michael Barone, Dick Morris, etc.) discussing the fact that Obama is a Joneser, and the surprisingly large role of GenJones in this election, the video is 5 minutes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1...h? v=1Ta_Du5K0jk

Gravatar Michael Barone? David Brooks? Dick Morris? You'll have to excuse me for catching a whiff of right-wing agenda here....

Gravatar You're excused Matt. I disagree with putting the point in time for the culture warrier right that we see in its death throes now. I believe it goes back to the election wipe-out by the Republicans in 1964 (Johnson-Humphrey vs Goldwater-Miller). Out off that lanslide was born the "intellectual" and media strategy of right wing think tanks, The Federalist Society, CATO, The Taxpayer's Union, etc. Reagan continued the movement by getting rid of the Fairness Doctrine, giving rise to radical right radio and so on.

Gravatar I didn't think that Generation Jones video had a right wing agenda...it had Al Sharpton, Juan Williams, Chris Van Hollen and lots of other lefties. And I found more video today about GenJones on YouTube, including three Dems--Clarence Page, Roland martin, and Peter Fenn talking about Jonesers' role in the election on NBC, CNN, etc.
