Gravatar Amen.

May God bless Archbishop Akinola and the other faithful Anglicans.

To think that the church that gave the world C. S. Lewis has degenerated to this state ... it is to weep.

peace,

Gravatar We have ours: Arinze.

Gravatar Dale, the rub lies in the following comment: "Peter Akinola values the Anglican Communion but he values his faith in Jesus Christ far more, particularly since he and other Nigerians have had defend that faith against attacks western liberal Anglicans can’t begin to comprehend."

Point one: Our hierarchs, including the pope, value the Catholic Church as an institution more than they value Jesus Christ.

Point two: Despite the pope's personal experiences, the vast majority of hierarchs have no idea just how endangered Christianity is throughout the world. They live in their world of watered lace, esoteric intellectuality and blind deference, oblivious to reality.

Sorry, c matt, but Arinze is as much a part of this world as Mahony is.

Gravatar Archbishop Akinola is a great man.

Gravatar Hippolito:

You seem to forget that to the Pope, and to the Catholic faithful, the RCC is not just an institution.

Gravatar c matt, if you're referring to the faithful as a whole, you're right. If you're referring to this Pope, you couldn't be more wrong. If he values Jesus Christ more than the ecclesiastical institution, then why has he been so slow in confronting the clerical abuse crisis that has rocked the church worldwide and so eager to engage in geopolitical lobbying regarding Iraq and the EU? Does ignoring the legitimate needs of the ravaged innocent and the deteriorating moral credibility of a Church whose members claim that Christ directly founded in favor of exerting personal influence in geopolitics please either Father or Son?
