Gravatar ...more lateral moves to Toledo...

Maybe just a wholesale swap? Can the Hens really be worse than the Tigers this year?

peace,

Gravatar Peace, Dale.

My sympathies. I used to tout Milwaukee not as a candidate for contraction, but relegation to the IL. Admittedly, that was a happier thought, Czar Bud descending toward the level of his competence ...

Gravatar At least you have the Detroit Shock of the WNBA. Seriously.

Gravatar Time for a new idea in baseball. A ten-team AL, a ten-team NL and a ten-team Correctional League. Teams that have been really bad for the past five years will be relegated and have to win readmission to the big leagues by their performance on the field. The CL teams wouldn't be eligible for the world series, interleague play (if that's to be kept) or the ML all-star teams.

If it were to start next year, the Correctional League would probably have roughly the following composition:

Colorado Rockies
Florida Marlins
Milwaukee Brewers
New York Mets
Pittsburgh Pirates
San Diego Padres
Cleveland Indians
Detroit Tigers
Tampa Bay Rays
Texas Rangers

Gravatar Gregg's idea not only has some merit but a variation of it has been working in international soccer for decades. Teams can get "promoted" or "relegated" depending on their performance. Teams in the First Division (the nation's best pro teams) get relegated to the Second Division if they have poor records (and teams in the Second Division w/stellar records get promoted).

Only one probelm: Some teams (like the Marlins) might never get out of the Correctional League.

Gravatar Woo-hoo! Finally, that monkey's going to be off my back!

Gravatar I'd like to see an Incorrigible League.

Only the Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cub would play.

After the 162 game season, they could play in a World Series.

One of them (at least hypothetically) would finally win a World Series....

Hey, Dale, did you get those venison recipies I sent ya?

Gravatar George:

Yes I did. Thanks kindly.

I really need to check my mail more often, sorry.

Gravatar Joe:

The...Shock. Well, Laimbeer has them off to a fine start, I suppose.

But the only non-NBA sport I've ever seen at the Palace was the now-defunct Detroit Vipers of the now-defunct IHL. The WNBA just ain't my bag.

The demotion angle is interesting. It does work to keep the competition in the Premier League pretty ferocious.

Then again, the Tigers might never sniff the MLB again, getting overtaken by either the West Michigan White Caps or Lansing Lugnuts.

Gravatar Overtaken in baseball on the field or in fights on the field? Or both?
