Very interesting information. He makes a good point that the appearance before the Sanhedrin was more of a "grand jury investigation" than an actual trial.

And yes, Jewish historians and writers throughout the centuries have stated that the Jewish leaders of the time played a role in getting Jesus executed. If it weren't for some evil antisemites in the past using this as an excuse to kill Jews, then there would be no argument here. It's only modern scholars who try to throw all the blame on Pilate, but that just doesn't hold water historically.

Needless to say, the actions of a few people 2000 years ago should not be used to blame an entire ethnic group for all time.

In Jesu et Maria,

Gravatar 150% agreed. Collective guilt is a crock--especially since it seems to be applied to Jews only.

The stated motive of the scholars--fighting anti-Semitism--is absolutely worthy, valid and laudable. It's their methods (and other motivations) that are problem for me.

Gravatar Collective guilt is not applied to Jews only. Except that in the US, it goes by other names - reparations, diversity and affirmative action.

Gravatar Its funny - saying the Jewish leadership could not have influenced/manipulated Pilate because Pilate had the authority is like saying Jesse Jackson, the NAACP, NARAL or the ADL can't influence American companies or government officials because they have no "official" authority. What a crock. Like a Democrat seeking political office wouldn't have to kiss the ring of NARAL to get elected.
