With all due respect, the Bishop needs to catch a clue. The liturgical abuses he advocates are quenching the Spirit, not the authentic reforms of His Holiness Pope John Paul II.

"It is not a fad, it is not the work of liturgical terrorists, not the invention of liberal liturgical scholars; the liturgical movement is the will of the Spirit for all of God's people."
That's the ticket: whatever you do, claim the workings of the Holy Spirit. (See Canon Vicki &c.)
And is that a great ditty catch-phrase or what? "Don't Quench the Spirit!"TM

Hey, looks like our jingle line was pilfered from somewhere else!
The wonderful thing about this sermon is the error at its core: The Rev. Pierpont mentioned didn't write "Jingle Bells," his black-sheep son did. But it's the Spirit of the thing that counts.

Reminds me of the line from Slap Shot, used repeatedly by the sportswriter character as he tried to turn bad hockey into something quasi-spiritual.
"I tried to capture the spirit of the thing."
Yes, the spirit is one busy endorser these days.

Ah, the need to be "resolute" in the face of fast competition by a few grade-school-aged girls. I love it.
They probably can't make a cookie better than a Samoa. =) Not to mention those mint wafer thingies.
