Gotta love anyone who channels Don Cherry. Got any loud sportcoats in that closet of yours?
How lucky are all of us who have been able to pick up Hockey Night In Canada as it bleeds over the border?

Blame year-round conditioning for rendering the hockey fight obsolete. As a result, hockey players are bigger, stronger, faster- the equivalent of SMDs (Skaters of Mass Destruction.) Also blame the mandate to wear helmets- leading to less reluctance to scramble the other guy's grey matter. Amazing that there haven't been more Bertuzzi or McSorley-like incidents in the league. But note that the number of fights plummets dramatically come playoff time. Too much is at stake, every puck possession is crucial. No coach can afford to have his best scorer or defender in the 'sin bin,' while his teammates scramble in penalty-killing. "Slap Shot" is as relevant to contemporary hockey as "Pride of The Yankees" to baseball-the other Major Sport With A Strong Self-Destructive Streak. Wake me up when the Flyers reach the Cup Series.
