Gravatar So many options for Joey Harrington. So few footballs. Can't be a positive sign for Charles Rogers. Meanwhile, the Iggles sent messages to their potential holdouts this weekend. Message to DT Corey Simon: number-one pick Mike 'Baby Sapp' Patterson from USC. 2nd round pick- Georgia WR Derrick Brown: goodbye FredEx Mitchell and don't let the door hit your butt on the way out. Mike Williams is a little redundant for Lions- not the well-planned, artfully-executed draft of '04. And can we please stop the crocodile tears that snif poor Aaron Rodgers snif fell all the way to number 25 and it made his mother sad honk? He holds a clipboard for, and learns from, Brett Favre for one, and maybe two, seasons before starting. Like Harvard Business School for up-and-coming QBs. Alex Smith is thrown to the jackals in Dumpy Old Formerly Candlestick Park. Now that's pressure.

Gravatar Great draft for your Iggles, from what I've read. Congrats--still the force to be reckoned with in the NFC.

Yes, not quite as brilliant in Lion Nation this time around. But--keep your eye on the later rounds. I think that's where the surprise value is this time around. Since we gave you Mike McMahon, it looks like we are trying another fifth rounder from the East Coast to replace him. By all accounts, Orlovsky would have been a 2nd-3rd rounder if his senior season would have been better. Him and the Oregon DL guy (name escapes me)--I think a couple of steals there.

I agree as to where the pity should be. Alex Smith looks to get pummelled over the next two years. There's nothing in SF to help him. Mr. Rodgers' neighborhood is much friendlier. Plus, he'll have a prime opportunity to work on arm mechanics and so forth with a Hall of Famer as a tutor (and an "unthreatened" one at that).

Gravatar No problem here with Willliams as the team's first pick. The Lions would have over valued a defensive player with the 10th overall selection - all the impact defenders were previously selected, IMHO. Rogers has a long history of injuries and will not enjoy consistent health with age. Williams and Williams, Pollard and K. Jones should present severe matchup problems in the NFC North. The Lions will have to be, well, the Lions in order to screw up a playoff appearence in '05.

Gravatar Oy will dis Smith boy get pummeled. Offensive line is meshuganah. DP- didja see the forehead of the Niners' 2nd round pick- his new center? Of course you have- he's a Michigan Man. Among the surest and most consistent rules of thumb- you can't go wrong with secondary players or linebackers from U. of Miami. Running backs from Georgia. Wide receivers from Miami, Tennessee or USC. Or major earthmovers/bodyguards from the Maize and Blue. Sad news in Happy Valley- based on my cursory review, not a single Penn Stater was drafted. Mr. Irrelevant turned out to be some poor schlub from William Penn College in Iowa. Even with the Michigan Man probably replacing Jeremy Newberry in handing off the ball, Smith had better expect to spend quality time in the trainer's quarters.

Gravatar Baas is great--definitely in the Jon Jansen/Jumbo Elliott earthmover tradition. We have a similar guy in Detroit--Jeff Backus. He looks like he's going to hold the position for the next decade or so.

Those cornfed Michigan linemen are guaranteed bargains, indeed.

But don't forget our QBs, either.

Gravatar Went to school in Twin Cities, so I follow the Vikings; went to grad school at Villanova, so I follow the Iggles; lived in Ann Arbor for 27 years, so I follow the Lions; lived in Chicago for seven years, so I follow the Bears (sob); live in Wisconsin now, but I just can't get excited about becoming a Cheesehead. Not sure why. Never lived in Boston, but I follow the Patriots. Gotta follow one winner and pray for the rest. Hear there was a draft last weekend. Never forget: they all start out even.

Gravatar I'm a Broncos fan, or is it Browncos now? Three straight CB's, and then Mo Clarett. Hmmmm...

Gravatar And now for something completely different....

How about a new, baseball-related name for our new pope?

How about Benzinger I (a combination of Benedict and Ratzinger), in honor of former Boston outfielder Todd Benzinger?

Gravatar So me and the nine year old are sittin' round the TV watching "The 7th Voyage of Sinbad", some of the worst acting in the history of Hollywood, which you'll agree is goin' some, and the kid says "Dale's starting to talk crazy about the Lions again." Meanwhile the cyclops is whuppin' on the dragon, and the dragon's bidin' his time, waiting for an opening. So, us bein' afflicted with the condition of bein' Buffalonians, I say "yeh, maybe the Bills'll play 'em in the Super Bowl this year." Well, the kid giggles and goes back to Sinbad. The cyclops is down for the count, and the evil magician, with his evil Nazi accent, is laughing the way evil Nazi magicians do, sorta the way Maureen Dowd thinks Pope Benedict used to while he was tying down liberals on the rack. Dang shame he never got around to her. Oh well, the dragon just took a giant arrow in the gizzard. Game, set, match, Kerwin Matthews.

Gravatar Kathy --

The answer to your question is obvious.

You have the grace and strength of will to resist the lures and deceits of the Enemy.
