I know why they don't have a "best rant-fest" category in the Catholic blog awards. No one but you would win.

God bless yer' ragin' heart.

Gravatar GOOD MORNING, DALE. I REALLY ENJOY READING YOUR COMMENTS EVEN THOUGH MY CATHOLIC EDUCATION IS LIMITED TO LINDA'S DESCRIPTION OF SATONIC NUNS AND "SAINT" FATHER RABIDOE (SP.). I THINK I AM ACTUALLY LEARNING SOMETHING. OF COURSE THE DISCUSSION OF MY GIFTED GRANDCHILDREN ARE EVEN MORE APPRECIATED. LOVE MOM

Gravatar Again, excellent dissection, DP. Good as anything I've ever read against that whole generation of frauds. Never more clear than during the scandal that cost Dan Rather his precious perch as national suppertime news reader- morphing into a man whose demise let to the rising of his own star. Richard Nixon. Like the secularists, the aging lib RC rebels have because those they hate. Or the image of the same, in flesh and blood. And will get royally p-----d off if you tell them. Adding to the fun. Psst, hey Charlie- The. Cafeteria. Is. Closed. Grab a meal at a fast food restaurant. Like, say, SMU.

Gravatar Yeah, I mean really -- what kind of respect can you get as a United Methodist, right Dale?

peace,

Gravatar when poor catholics in primitive africa are not allowed to use condoms and millions die of aids as a result because of the church ... it must be gods will ... right

Gravatar Eurowank,

those people don't have to have unprotected sex; in fact, they don't really have to have sex at all, as can be seen from the success of the ABC program in Uganda. If you were interested in facts and in Catholic teaching, you would know this; but apparently all that gets your attention is anti-Catholic bilge.

Gravatar Just a gentle reminder:

Only the host possesses the unfettered right and privilege to engage in name-calling.

That said, I, too, wouldn't mind seeing a clarification on the condom issue. I sense somehthing missing from comment fragment.

That is all.

Gravatar Dale, great fisk as always. There was one point I wish you would have made in response to his statement that "it was the first time an American Catholic theologian had been censured in this way".

Doesn't that directly contradict his argument that the Vatican "was having nothing of it"? Surely he wasn't the only one making these claims (and if he was, I think that speaks volumes in itself). If the Vatican was clamping down in excess, you'd expect there to be more than one of him censured in all of America.

Just doesn't add up to me.

Gravatar Aaa...great dissection. Stupid...'so-called' Catholics...

And, erm, yo Eurowank, y'know...that's messed up...and doesn't make sense...how the HECK does that make it the churches fault? If they can afford condoms methinks they can afford abstinence, hmm?

Gravatar Unless he'd care to pen an essay in defense of the morality of loansharking.

The bit where I finally gave in to raucous laughter.

Gravatar I lived in Dallas until last summer and saw Curran debate Janet Smith of UD on contraception back in '96 or '97, I think. It was actually quite disappointing b/c she was quite logical and had good points, but he would go off topic, ramble, and blather, repeating pre-packaged bites as though no one was there to challenge him. I'm not saying that to make him sound badly, I was really looking forward to seeing Curran all-out. But he was a terrible public speaker and certainly poorly endowed in the logic-on-your-feet dept. Good thing he never applied to the Jesuits - they'd never have taken him (in the "old days" or now). I remember thinking, "Is this the *best* they can do???"

Gravatar Eurowank:

two words: grow. up.

with such reasonable commentary as yours getting the usual play in MSM and academia, I'm glad to be just another holy fool twisting your brain around. Yurodivi mentioned the Uganda story. Read it. Learn. There's still hope. btw love the Matrix pix. Seriously

Dale:

Why would anyone ever want to fisk again after watching you in action. You are the hibachi master of St. Blogs, if not the whole 'sphere!

Gravatar Dale,

This has to be added to your greatest snits list.

Tim L

Gravatar Curran is a saint. The legalistic, authoritarian Catholic hierarchy always silences sainty dissenters. That's why we never hear any criticism, and why Father Curran has to live in hiding for fear of the Dominican, Jesuit, and Opus Dei assassins.

Your post proves Catholic fundamentalists to be the most humorless and uncritical stuffed shirts in the world!

Gravatar Kevin:

Good one--you ape the style perfectly!

The "OD assassin" gave the game away, though...

Albinos! Albinos everywhere!

Gravatar As a Dallas resident, I have to say that it has been disturbing to see all of the black Mercedes with the little red maltese cross decals in their windows lurking around the SMU area. Every now and then one of them can be found in the parking lot at St. Elizabeth Seton Church in nearby Plano or at the Stella Maris Bookstore in Forth Worth, and I've heard reports that there's an underground parking garage somewhere near Ursuline Academy (just a stone's throw frow Jesuit Prep).

I understand that Curran has let the rectors at the local parishes know he's available if they ever want a guest preacher or someone to fill in at the occasional Mass. I've heard there has been some response; one church asked if he could help out with their Casino Night (they needed dealers for the blackjack tables).

Gravatar Ah, yes: Haight, Boff and Kung. Respectively: "Jesus as dead body," "Jesus as Che Guevara," and "Jesus as Hans Kung."

LOL

You just made my week. One of your best ever.

Indeed: When will the repression stop?

But in the meantime, I'm still left to wonder why an old power forward for the Sixers is so worked up about Catholic theology.

Gravatar One of the best fiskings yet! If only it weren't so true...

Gravatar I think people at SMU should call themselves "Confederate Methodists" instead of "United Methodists" just to scare the bejeezus out of Northerners.
