Gravatar Truly hilarious. The only one of these poor deluded souls quoted in the piece is an ex-nun- big surprise- a spry young chicken of 65. So if I guesstimate- nine women, well over 50, 2-6 prescription medications each, sensible shoes, the usual Beatles circa 1964 hair style pandemic among the species, the same drab K-Mart dresses and/or pantsuits. Thinking they're bold risktakers who will grab Benedict XVI's attention and lead to bolder steps to..... Nope. No more normal than the folks who will attend the annual convention of milk bottle collectors in our state. Just as the late Hee Haw cast member Junior Samples would comment: "Not silly. Merely foolish."

Gravatar Obviously the bishop that is doing this ordination is not a validly ordained bishop...This is truly silly and the people who are involved in this facade are even sillier... I think they all need to grow up.

Gravatar That's a very sharp observation and quite true. And the reason that Matthew Fox gets any publicity is only because he once was a Catholic and a priest. Had he been a Jew or Pentacostal who converted to whatever brand he terms himself, there would be no news whatsoever. Aside from who he once was, he is a total nonentity. A zip, a bore, a zero.

Gravatar I shudder to remember how popular Matthew Fox was among the philosophy faculty at my alma mater (Marywood College, Scranton, PA) during the 1980's. The Sisters spoon-fed us his materials as if they were newly-penned Gospels.
Wonder if any of them were on that boat?

Gravatar Ship of Fools...

Gravatar If you want to keep up with the old coot, Matt's got himself one of those blog things all the kids are into these days. And Matt's really been hitting the Anglican arugula hard lately The old fraud thinks the church needs a new reformation so he came up with 95 theses. He even went to Wittenburg, Germany and wanted to nail them to the door of the Castle Church. But he couldn't do since the doors are made of metal now. A shame, really.

Gravatar The address of Matt's blog is here:

Gravatar Well, I suppose Mr. Fox could have scotch-taped them to the doors, but then that kind of lessens the dramatic impact, doesn't it?

Sigh. It makes me tired.

Gravatar Whenever I read anything these dissenting nuns write I try to find a shred of humility in it. It's just not there. If you think of anyone of faith who is considered a role model, they usually possess a great quantity of humilty.

Gravatar It's hard to pick a favorite Thesis from the 95. The two (so far; I'm only up to 43) calling out Opus Dei by name are in the running, but my favorite has to be:

The prejudice of rationalism and left-brain located in the head must be balanced by attention to the lower charkas as equal places for wisdom and truth and Spirit to act.

Gravatar Number 8 is:

"All are called to be prophets which is to interfere with injustice.

Alle Menschen sind berufen Prophetinnen und Propheten zu sein, was bedeutet, sich in Ungerechtigkeit einzumischen."

Now what the heck is that supposed to mean? Does he mean that "all are called to be prophets" who interefere with injustice? Or that "all are called to be prophets" which means that they are to interfere with injustice?

On its face, his 8th thesis is gibberish. Obviously, he needs to spend less time on chakra-contemplation and more on syntax.

Not that I'm implying that any of the others are any more comprehensible.

And, by the way, why are we "prophets" only supposed to "interfere" with injustice? What if I in my full throttle "prophet" mode want to actually "fight" injustice or, worse still, actually extirpate injustice root and branch? Isn't it preferrable to eliminate injustice, rather than merely tolerate it or "interfere" with it through the occasional bit of street theater?

Just wondering.
