Back on topic -- yeah, I know what you mean about the white noise background. Whenever we get to such a place, it's hard to leave too. Before we moved to MaizeNBlueLand, we had such a house -- with the exception of the traffic at shift change. 3 times a day, for about 30 minutes. Versus 24x7x362.25. We really didn't understand how good we had it.
If silence is necessary to contemplation and knowledge of God, then cities, suburbs, and highways are spawn of Satan.

Sorry, Zach. That's my former life as a rap artist coming back to haunt me. That, and the derangement caused by the premature end to the college football season.
I think people need silence--outdoor silence--more than they know. "Be still, and know I am God" comes to mind. That, and dark, starlit skies at night. Instead, we need to fill it with its opposite. I'm not sure what that says, but it's almost certainly not good.
Time to start collecting those distributist books.
