Well, part of the issue with my reticence about the Irish is mostly that I just don't talk sports too much unless something is pissing me off - hence all the crap about OSU and their fans (or rather, the blight on the Columbus, Ohio landscape).
High points in sports for the Poobah recently: Charlie Weis and ND Football (late game letdowns aside), Lance Armstrong, U.S. Soccer, and my fantasy football team (hey, mostly they suck, but at least I should be at .500 in my first season ever playing it after tonight).
And the Blue Jackets? Well... at least hockey is back. Sort of. Besides, when it comes right down to it, the Wings still rule.

1. Wotta Saturday evening. Sparks coming from my clicker. Going back and forth between USC-ND & Nits/Maize & Blue. Attention Paul Tagliabue- this is what football is really like. Two stone cold classics to be replayed and retold by fans of all teams involved for generations.
2. Totally impressed by the way ND took the measure of the national champs. Who are stronger, faster, better coached, than 25-40% of current NFL franchises. Yes, DP, that includes your Lions, run by Fratboy Millen. Can't say enough of what Charlie Weis has done under Golden Dome. Had an answer for virtually everything Pete Carroll threw at him until last :07.
3. Not heartbroken by the final TD of Maize & Blue. Never a big Nits fan. Happy to see the program back on national stage. But wotta finish. Would be talk of nation today if not for USC-ND Classic.
4. Hurrah for Chisox. Angels game, but can't blame collapse completely on bad calls. Umps don't hit. Or fail to challenge starting pitchers who go all nine innings. As Chisox pitchers achieved to get sufficient rest for Fall Classic. Expect 'Stros to close out current Busch Stadium rather rudely this Monday evening. Not as much buzz as a Chitown-St. Loo Series. But should be superb fundamental pitching-dominated baseball. Chisox in 6.
Did you see that Michigan opened the college hockey season with a win over Boston College?

We grill all year round in Michigan. Well, by "we" I mean my husband. I smile and wave from the kitchen window as he trudges out to the grill in moon boots and ski mask.
By the way, I did make it to All Saints in Flint for the Latin Mass last Sunday. Thanks for reassuring me; I was not out of place without a mantilla. They did provide a booklet missal, but I was glad I brought Granny's old St. Joseph missal so I could follow along with the proper. I made a wise decision to leave my 2 little ones at home, as the Mass lasted 2+ hours. I don't know if it was because Bishop Mengeling was the celebrant and there was a choir from Assumption Grotto or if it's always that long. There were, however, plenty of young families with perfectly behaved children who left me wondering what their secret is.
FWIW, I thought the Irish got jacked on the spot of the ball and final few seconds against the University of Spoiled Children.
Re: Henne - There's no point in benching the sophomore QB at this point in the season. Give him some reps - there's no guarantee Gutierrez (sp) can save this season.
OTOH, if Henne is injured (his passes have floated a bit) then let's make a change.
I wish I could get behind Michigan, but I can't. I guess it's because my father -in-law is an alum.

You crushed JoPa and as a Pitt Alum I respect that. So, for this week only we stand together. Did you know our fight song actually contains the lines, "Penn State Sucks!"?
Ok, it's actually supposed to be "Fight, Pitt, Fight!" but no one sings that. I have it as an mp3 on my computer, and you can hear the fans chant Penn State Sucks even though it's supposed to be an "official" recording. We don't even play them in football anymore.
