I find it easier to pray than have good thoughts, so the Stirlings can count on the former. Godspeed to a full recovery.
And on Dale's recommendation I picked up The Peshawar Lancers. It goes with me to Pawley's Island this July.

Thanks to all of you. Jan is a bit better today -- the tubes are out and she's sitting up, and has managed to keep some yoghurt down.
And she's a Catholic, so she'll appreciate the prayers particularly... 8-).
(Oddly enough, on our first date I mentioned that I'd once walked behind King Billy in the Orange Order parade, and recited the Orange Order Oath. Our relationship survived this.)

Just in case anyone's curious, the oath goes:
"And here's to the great, grand and pious memory of William of Orange, who saved us from rogues and roguery, knaves and knavery, slaves and slavery, Popes and Popery, from brass money and wooden shoes. And may any who deny this oath be crammed, jammed and slammed into the great Gun of Athone, and the gun fired into the Pope's belly, and the Pope into the devil's belly, and the devil into Hell and the door locked and the key in an Orangeman's pocket. And may we never lack a brisk Protestant lad to kick a Papist in the arse, and here's a fart for the Bishop of Cork."
Not exactly deathless poetry, but it has a certain raw force... 8-).

Steve:
Ooof. Well, it could only go up from there, dating-wise.
And I'm clipping and saving that oath.

Jan's much better, and we expect her home sometime this week. I'm jumping around getting the place ready -- cleaning, buying a new bed, that sort of thing.
Thanks for all the good wishes!

Mr. Stirling:
Lest the Orangemen have the last word, I heard the following on a Clancy Brothers album:
Up a long ladder and down a short rope!
To hell with King Billy, and God Bless the Pope!
If that doesn't do, we'll tear him in two, and send him to hell with his red, white, and blue!
