Gravatar Am I the only one who noticed that the two signs she is holding up don't make a great deal of sense? I mean, what does it mean, "do not associate aught with him."?

Gravatar It means there's only one God and He's not a Trinity. No pantheon, no divine consorts, no sons, God is not only unitary but solitary and alone. Which is to say, "The Pope is violating the Quran by teaching about Christianity and should stop it right now this instant before he comes to our country."

Gravatar Hilary:
I suspect that we'll have to read a more accurate translation of Koran 4:36. Nonetheless, I suspect that that verse is a denial of the Trinity. The Moslem freak out whenever the Trinity is mention, it's like spraying garlic on a vampire.

I'm really curious to see how the Turks behave themsleves and if they'll confirm Benedict's sharp observation that Islam is inherently unreasonable. Let's see how much shrieking we'll hear
In any case, it'll be the final kiss of death for Turkey's candidacy into the Union

cheyan's got it. The absolute unity of God in Islamic thought doesn't allow for triunity. No way, no how.

As another commenter here put it a month ago, the real problem with the Koran is that it's clear the author didn't understand the Trinity at a basic level (throwing Mary into the mix at one point). The best that can be said is that Muhammad must have run into a really, really heterodox bunch of Christians, the Collyridians on steroids.

Gravatar I believe Moslems historically have inscribed that verse all over the interior of Christian churches once they take them over. Europeans will get to know 4:36 quite well, I'm afraid.

Gravatar really heterodox bunch of Christians

I have a friend who says that Islam itself is just a mix of Nestorianism and Arabic paganism. Don't know enough about it to say myself.
