Gravatar Far and away the stupidest thing you will hear (and I already have--some degreed twit from DePaul has weighed in accordingly) are self-described Christians nattering on about how this, if true, doesn't affect their "faith" one iota.

The "twit" is John Dominic Crossan:

If the bones of Jesus were to be found in an ossuary in Jerusalem -- and let's say they were definitely established to be the bones of Jesus -- would that destroy Christian faith? It certainly would not destroy my Christian faith. I leave what happens to bodies up to God.

Gravatar "The 'twit' is John Dominic Crossan ..."

... the Jesus Seminar's token "Catholic".

Gravatar It wouldn't destroy your Christian faith if you believe Christ never was resurrected to begin with. If however a major tenant of you faith rests on the fact of Jesus rising again, "rebuilding the temple in three days," then yes it must be destructive of the faith if Jesus' body was found on earth and decayed. Is it not clear that if Jesus did not fulfill what he said he would then it cannot be true? On the other hand if this is somebody's attempt at a fabulous claim to fame, as it most likely is, and proves untrue then nothing is challenged.

I feel I've seen this discussion before...

"Flying somewhere?"
"Yes. How'd you know?"
"Well when I saw the luggage and the plane tickets I put two and two together."

Gravatar If it were "proven true", how could it "not" affect a person's Christian faith? The only way this evidence, if "true", would not affect a person's faith is if he liked believing in lies, or if he really didn't have a Christian faith to begin with--wait, that does apply to Crossan, doesn't it?

If Christ's bones are in some moldy old box somewhere, then Christianity is bunk. Plain and simple. I'm sure we all know what St. Paul had to say about this:

"If Christ be not risen again, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain. Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God: because we have given testimony against God, that he hath raised up Christ; whom he hath not raised up, if the dead rise not again.... If Christ be not risen again, your faith is vain, for you are yet in your sins. Then they also that are fallen asleep in Christ, are perished. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable." (1 Cor 15:14-15, 17-19)

In Jesu et Maria,

Gravatar Here we go again. DaVinci Code The Sequel. Katie Couric breathlessly teasing this non-story at the top of her non-newscast. Fills the news hole left by Britney Spears settling into rehab. Not upset. Just annoyed.

Gravatar I just ask all of you to remember what season it is...Lent, and the approach to the Resurrection of our Lord.

Last year, the MSM trotted out the gospel according to Judas and a few other Christianity-doubting puff pieces to show how backward, naive, and stupid we are for believing in the Resurrection, etc. And you can mark my words that - a year from now - another one of these clap-trap "stories" will come down the pike again.

Besides, James Cameron hasn't made a decent film (or, I believe, any film) since "Titanic".

Gravatar Over at the the Kraalspace:

http://kraalspace.blogspot.com/

Dr. Mabuse had a great line in her comment box. "Whoever are the Bad Guys in this scenario (the Church, or some of Jesus' more excitable followers) they must have been real incompetents. Imagine trying to flog a fake religion based on a guy who died and rose again, and not only is his real body left lying around, it's NEATLY LABELLED for debunkers to find!"

Gravatar Wait a minute ... I thought Jesus's body was eaten by dogs? Please help.

Gravatar Yes, Victor Morton, that's right! And it was none other than John Dominic Crossan who came up with that brilliant idea! Honestly, the stupidity and gullibility of these people knows no bounds! I pray that the Holy Spirit will blow the cobwebs off their minds so they can see this B.S. for what it is -- BS of the highest possible grade! These people are dumber than a bag of hammers, God help them

Gravatar Amy, did you refer to Titanic as a decent film?
