Gravatar Must be frustrating for you Michiganers. But as I said on my blog, at least she can't further disrespect Catholic, pro-life Michigan by running for Prez and Veep, owing to her Canadian birthplace.

Gravatar I'm not sure I'd go as far as to say that vouchers "aren't a catechism issue." They're not mentioned or alluded to (that I can recall) in the CCC. But JPII did once say that when there's public funding for schools, it's a matter of basic justice that it be available to people who want to send their kids to religious schools. Sometime I'll try to dig that address of his up again. And in any case, I think the point is fairly obvious.

Gravatar I'm inclined to believe the stories, if only because something like this happened at our parish last Sunday. Two college students came by to pass out leaflets. They attended mass, and went out to the parking lot to pass them out.

Father apparently said there was no problem as long as they were "on the sidewalk," i.e., not obstructing traffic in the lot. Instead, they were pushed off to the edge of the sidewalk by the street.

Granted, I think they (the leaflet-ers) could have tried a different tack (asking for permission beforehand apparently had not been done), but one of the ushers was irrationally, "in your face" hostile to them, and at least two of the others, while not hostile, were under the impression that "ordinances would be violated" if they were permitted to pass out leaflets. From what I understand, the hostile usher gave Father's "on the sidewalk" permission the most restrictive possible interpretation.

What was most disturbing about the whole thing was the hostility. I can think of no other reason for it, except that the usher was upset about the views of the students.

Gravatar Thank God I live in Texas. Even our liberal Democrat bishops in South Texas follow the Gospel of life. The Corpus Christi diocese banned pro-choice "Catholic" Tony Sanchez from speaking on Church property in their diocese. Too bad Maida didn't make a similar stand. Of course, even the name of the city has a Catholic ring to it.

Gravatar Re: Catholic harassment of pro-life advocates.

I'm a member of one of the parishes vaguely referred to in this cryptic entry at the "StopGranholm" site. Now, I'm not saying that this couldn't have happened, only that I never saw any such thing last Sunday. The entry is extremely vague and I have not found any confirmation from any other source of what exactly is supposed to have happened during these "similar incidents". I've written to the "StopGranholm" site to see if anyone can offer more details, we'll see what comes up. I want a bit more accountability from the source before I go asking my pastors for accountability.
