One thing about guarding them while they sleep - we are in control because, like it or not, they don't want to be. It lets them be all self-righteous about their appeasement philosophy, and whine when we don't play along. Let'em mock; let'em laugh; but bottom line is it remains our game. Would you really rather have the French in charge?
Funny, the Euros remind me a lot of career law professors - the ones that never practiced or did so for only a year. They act all-knowing and all righteous about what the law should be, what it is "to be a lawyer", etc. but its the lawyers actually practicing who make the laws and make the system and who actually have to make real arguments in front of real judges and juries. At best, the profs are a sideshow.
