Gravatar We need no more submissions: Our Shameless Narcissist of 2009 Award goes to Maureen Fiedler at the National Catholic [sic] Reporter. Here's a hint, Maureen: the fact the Swiss Guard didn't spray you with bullets or take runs at you with motorcycles and clubs just might be a hint from the Clue Lumbermill that your analogy sucks like a black hole. It's not all about you. Really.

You, sir, have a gift. You really do.

Gravatar Great post. But sadly, there will be many more submissions to the shameless narcissist award. And probably from the same publication.

Gravatar Yes, Maureen, because not being allowed to pretend to be a priest is the same as being shot by a police sniper. Right.

Christ's Church is not a democracy and never has pretended to be. God isn't elected.

Gravatar Good thing ... He'd probably lose to Obama

Gravatar Obama, or Barabbas. But I repeat myself.

(Too much?)

Gravatar Given your comments on Iran, Dale, I hope you will post a request for your visitors to pray that the demonstrators receive God's wisdom, courage, energy and poise in their struggle, and that God destroys the Iranian theocracy.

Gravatar One more thing, from Mark Sullivan's blog:

If you use Twitter, set your location to Tehran & your time zone to GMT +3.30. Iranian security forces are hunting for bloggers using location/timezone searches. The more people at this location, the more of a logjam it creates for forces trying to shut down Iranians' access to the internet. Cut & paste & pass it on.

Gravatar Dear Dale: Sickening videos indeed. Appalled what happened to poor Neda.
What a ghastly regime Iran has. And I dread the prospect of the vile likes of Khamenei and Ahmaninejad soon getting their hands on nukes.

And I also agree with you about the totally inadequate response by Barry Obama and his gang. I know, there's not much, if anything, we can do in Iran. But, at least Barry should stop cringingly offering his hand to the blood drenched theocrats in Tehran.

And, Maureen Fiedler? The only proper response to her is this: HACK, SPITS.

Sincerely,

Gravatar "What is "realist"ic about the belief that you can negotiate binding treaties with a regime that blatantly fixes its own elections?"

The fact that we negotiate treaties with China? Do they even bother to pretend to have elections to fix? Not dealing with other countries because we, very justifiably, don't like them has never made sense to me. They don't go away because we ignore and isolate them, as Castro has been showing for 50 years. And the Islamic Republic has been showing for 30 years.

And specifically in the Middle East, if we can be friends with the Saudis, I think we can have a non-warlike relationship with the Iranians.

Gravatar wc:

The Chinese routinely cheat and engage in patent violations on the trade agreements we have with them. And that's just in the commercial sphere--we haven't even attempted to make them give up their weapons, or forego the development of new ones, which is the issue with the theocracy in Tehran.

And even in the face of that, the Chinese at least have the virtue of not being the sponsors of the second-deadliest string of terrorist violence against the U.S.

It's not a matter of not dealing with them in all respects. It's a matter of understanding exactly what you can obtain from dealing with them. Which, in the case of Iran's nuclear weapons program, is nothing.

Gravatar I agree wholeheartedly, Joe. And I opened my Twitter account on Saturday and changed the time zone right away. Unfortunately, given the Iranian firewall and tracking system, I have strong doubts it confuses anyone, but it's worth a shot.

Gravatar New musical from NCR: "Fiedler on the Roof", with the hit song: "I Am Such A Bitch, Man".

Another excellent post, Dale.

Gravatar Larry--whoa--ouch!

And thanks!

Gravatar I believe Maureen was on a TV program with the late Fr. Neuhaus some years ago. A Catholic commentator summed up the show : "Neuhaus Romed while Fiedler burned."
