I adore what I've heard...
His death announced, and then tears, cheers and applause in the square.

Only we know what the cheers & applause mean...
Job well done.
Tears...you are not with us here.

I do not see him resting in peace.
He will do more.

Ha! I can't see him sleeping easy in a world where Terri Schiavo is starved to death and Castro et al continue their tyranny.

The veil is very thin, as he would tell us.
He can see some things excellently well now...
but prayers here where things are most difficult and cloudy, but people believe, carry weight as well.

A particularly - and uniquely - fitting means of tribute, John.
Nicely conceived.

Pope John Paul should not be mourned....how about mourning for the 10's of thousands he sent to an early grave in africa due to his henchmen on the ground telling aids affected people that condoms not only did not stop aids they help spread it.
pope jp was a mass murderer up there with hitler and pol pot.

Try not to leave hateful messages here. Proper debate is welcome, ugly ranting is not.

Before one gets too carried away in adulation of the late Pope, this criticism by Hans Küng is worth reading in full: The Pope's Contradictions, Der Spiegel, 26 March 2005. The headline: "Outwardly Pope John Paul II, who has been actively involved in battling war and suppression, is a beacon of hope for those who long for freedom. Internally, however, his anti-reformist tenure has plunged the Roman Catholic church into an epochal credibility crisis. . . . Don't be fooled by the crowds: millions have left the Catholic Church under Pope John Paul II's leadership."

Actually Church membership grew from 750 million to over 1.1 billion!
I have discussed Küng previously, he is an aged sixties liberal and his ideas have long lost favour with serious Catholics.
It does not surprise me that he wrote such hurtful things even as the Pope was dying. Happily, Küng was never Pope and John Paul was. Hurrah!
