You and your family have my sincere sympathies, NTodd. Your bond with Pa will grow stronger from enduring the loss together (looking for some semblance of a silver lining).

Very thoughtful post, watertiger.
I'm so sorry to hear this - it's heartbreaking and gut wrenching, and he really, as you said on Eschaton, has had to endure way too much in just a matter of a few months.

For NTodd:
One never grows old enough to lose a parent philosophically!
My very deepest sympathy. Have your mom look up mine in heaven (there IS one for mothers, I'm sure). She's been up there since 1969 and knows the ropes. She'd be pleased, I know, to meet the lady who raised a kid like you.

Yeah, this just sucks. No other way around it, and it's just too much for the poor kid. Damn. I told him that his virtual community would gather him in for a big hug; I know lots of you out there can do that for real. So hold him extra long for the rest of us, eh?
