Imagine having a career with as much promise as hers has had, with the opportunity afforded black women in the latter 20th century. As I said in my comment to the preceding item, two things keep cropping up:
1. The folly of warbling "sustainable cease-fire" whle innocent people are dying on both sides. Negotiate an immediate cease-fire. THEN negotiate terms to make it permanent. If nothing else, it would save some lives AND perhaps restore some unity in the international community so that world opinion can be focused.
2. The ease with which one can achieve a reputation for being brighter than one is (again, ahem!) -- embarrassing at best, but downright dangerous when one begins to believe the assessment. She's a hang-over from Cold War days, her field of expertise. Investment in a map and a good history on the Middle East, the creation of Israel, etc., would be a good first step in playing catch-up.
As it is, she's cast herself in the fawning lickspittle role, sacrificing good judgment and common sense on the altar she's built before W.

But she started out in Bush the Elder's administration, didn't she? She isn't an innocent victim of circumstance. She married herself to neocons, knowing they were neocons. In fact, at one time, Rummy and Cheney were called "the crazies" and no one would listen to them. . . Too bad they found someone empty-headed enough to think that "the crazies" were the smart ones. I think I'm referring to W here, but maybe others (condi) as well.

Also, as my connections at Stanford remind me, she was not well regarded there, and ultimately her provost role devolved into something akin to finding space for visiting professors.
