it was no mistake, just some neocon statement. [delusional, i know, but you can't convince them not to refight all those lost wars.]

if i were leaders of vietnam, i'd be wondering if chimpy wasn't planning on re-occupying, to finish the job nixon didn't. i see kissinger's ["dr. war crimes"] influence here -- anybody know if he's still visiting the WH in the middle of the night?

Gravatar And let's not forget the "shoulder massage" he shared with Chancellor Merkel...

Gravatar See..., that's the problem when you're a time-travelling imperialist: sometimes you get the wrong flag for the time you're in.

Gravatar And the Vietnam trade bill was withdrawn today - what the hell is Bush going to do there anyway? I don't think they have any oil there, do they?

Gravatar donna,

he's going to try to browbeat the Asians into buying more of our crappy cars.

Gravatar Oil?
No, no oil.

Bicycles.
Poverty!
Maybe a few land mines.

No Oil

Gravatar Is there an IQ ceiling that White House protocol employees have to fall under to get the job?

Sure. Nobody can be smarter than Bunnypants.

Low ceiling.

Gravatar I thought Georgie liked to visit teh Google?

Gravatar donna & mr debakey:

Vietnam is the is the third-largest oil producer in Southeast Asia....

Gravatar Vietnam is the is the third-largest oil producer in Southeast Asia....

And I've heard it argued that that was one of the reasons we went in back in the '60s.

Gravatar watertiger: And I've heard it argued that that was one of the reasons we went in back in the '60s

i have no clue if what's reported here [...one of the world's largest potential oil fields ran along the coast of the South China Sea right off French Indo-China, now known as Viet Nam.] bears any remblance to reality or not, but after what this country's been through these last 6 years, some of it now seems plausible.

watertiger

And it's also one of the reasons American corps. have traded "unofficially" with them since the 1970's. Ain't title swapping grand!

Gravatar I'm blushing

And people call me a know it all

They are so wrong

Gravatar "Is there an IQ ceiling that White House protocol employees have to fall under to get the job? "

Yes. 59 would be 'bout right.

Gravatar Trying to convince Viet Nam to stop trading anything w/ the local neighborhood axis of evil?

Gravatar All your oil are belong to us. But you can still fly your cute new flag!

Gravatar ....Its not the oil they now seek, IT IS the cheap labor...and a bargaining chip (abet small) against China....Lest anyone forget after they finally forced us to leave. The Vietnamese fought a three year war against China and forced them to leave also. Georgie the lesser has a few friends that would like to open up a few factories. Aqua -farming being just one high on their agenda......but those little nickknacks sold at your favorite Wally-Mart are also on his plate.

Gravatar ....Its not the oil they now seek, IT IS the cheap labor...and a bargaining chip (abet small) against China....

Yeah, but I keep having these insane dreams where the leaders of every semi-indusrialized nation in Asia gather 'round a huge teak table and tell Chimpy they've decided to join the Teamsters--and want a full benefits package. And by the way, we're no longer permitted to use their backyards to dump our toxic crap!

I've read that the Vietnamese teach the war with the US as the fourth stage of a sux stage war that started in the late 18th century when the French had the nerve to claim Vietnamese territory as their own. Vietnam had previously been a vassal state to China, who mostly left them alone.

The six invaders were France, Japan, France, the US, China and Cambodia.

Gravatar Next time Hu Jintao visits I bet they'll announce they're going to play the Taiwan national anthem.

Oh, wait... That already happened. It's hard to keep track of all the incompetence.

Gravatar We flew the Canadian flag upside-down? I try to keep up, but that one got by me.
