Come On...Out With It!

Gravatar The one-piecer flight suit sounds about as babe friendly as the Navy Coveralls. Hey ladies, wanna see the white t-shirt with the pit stains under this bad boy?

Gravatar The one piece has been the mark of flight crew members for a long time. Indeed, many fights have been attributed to non-aircrew wearing them - which is highly inappropriate. I, being non-aircrew civilian type, have never worn one, and never will - I have no reason to, and wouldn't anyway as respect for those who have earned their wings.

1LT Allen, I think, was right in his lament of the loss of this uniform - aviators do deserve the status and to be able to wear their wings - they do things that us mere mortals do not. I think I understand where he is coming from - but he should have known better. Flaming the brass in public ain't gonna do his career any good!

Gravatar Is there no place on the new two piece for the Wings? If they don't have a spot for wings, then they don't for other specialty badges, correct?

Gravatar Ah, youth.

The publishing of this letter was likely followed by a missive from the young 'un's battalion XO, to the effect of, "Come in here, Dumbass...." then it probably got worse.

I wore that damn one-piece for a decade and a half before getting the ABDUs. They didn't last as well, but they certainly made it easier to deal with *ahem* "personal issues" in the field.

You could always tell a newbie in the field because he had brown stains on the collar of his one-piece.....

Gravatar 67 there is a place for pin-on wings, sew on is not authorized on the ACU or the A2CU (they say to save the soldier money).

In theater you can wear skill badges period. In CONUS you can't wear pin-on badges when you are working on or in aircraft.

In Vietnam Army aviators wore at times cotton jungle fatigues, then two piece green nomex, then after that they adopted the sage green one-piece flight suit. There are a lot of good points that could have been made about why that uniform should be used...cost is one big one. Unfortunately the good LTs poor choice of words and the high pitched whine heard coming from his letter will convince no one and probably piss off more than a few people.

Gravatar I should have typed that in theater you CAN"T wear pin-on devices or skill badges of any type.

Gravatar Remind me that whenever I am any position of authority to screen anything a LT thinks is a good idea to write down. Intent: Good. Execution: Poor.

Congrats, Dan. We are all flying tankers now. Just don't roll your sleeves 1/4 of the way up your arm.

Gravatar I think maybe those Delta guys might have something to say about the whole "most dedicated" thing and I can tell you for a fact that the Combat Infantrymen (this one at least) that did a little more than being in the same zip code as a contrail to earn their badges take umbrage.

Gravatar This guy is only weeks out of flight school if he's a 1LT. Most current FS21 grads are iLTs and CW2s now. That's because the delays at Ft Rucker are so long that most students spent about 2 years at Rucker for 9 months of actual training. Bring on the flames...it's the truth.
