If MacKay apologizes, he should wait until the chair he gestured to is empty, then apoligize to the chair. After all, when Belinda's chair is empty the IQ rating in that particular piece of Commons real estate surely goes up.

I somewhat disagree in the most minute way -- I do not believe that politics should change to suit women, but I DO believe it ought change to simply be more civil. The comment hurled at Deb Grey is disgraceful and the member should have been expelled for the day, by his/her own party leader. Is it disgraceful because Deb is a woman? No - it would be as disgraceful if said to John Crosbie or anyone else.
People are cynical about politics for several reasons, and this kind of childish, bullying behaviour is one of them.
But, I'm a hypocrite - I see nothing wrong with MacKay calling Stronach a dog. The reason is because a) they were intimately involved, and workplace romances often go afoul and we just have to try and get on while the ex-romantics work out their frustrations, and b) because the Opposition goaded him into it. No one should be allowed to talk while someone else has the floor, and whoever was heckling MacKay, and whoever MacKay was heckling, should both be put out by the Speaker. Their conduct is unproductive. When I'm in a meeting, people don't make smalltalk amongst themselves when a person is presenting.
Our Parliament is a disgrace on all sides on too many days.
Generally, however, other than the "politics should change because..." quibble, I'm with you 97%, which really is quite a lot.

what I liked best about showing the Deborah Gray clip was her boast about not taking the 'lucrative' MP pension... we all know how THAT worked out... Deb had to embarrassingly backtrack on that promise as she opted in... a good lesson for Politicians everywhere, like the one who said he would use Stornoway as a bingo parlour.
