My English teachers in junior high always described prepositions as "anything an airplane could do to a cloud." I preferred the explanation offered by my mother--also an English teacher: "anything a bunny can do to a trash can." I don't know where she came up with that, but now anytime I hear "preposition," I think of a sad lost bunny in a dark alley. . .
