Gravatar DP...i agree wif u!!~

Gravatar hey well said!I totally agree with what you said. It's also human's right to choose whoever they want to be.

Gravatar Thanx alot for sharing this, it's really touching. I like the 2nd woman's voice. Very..caring :D Who is she?

Gravatar no offense, but you're apparently not a geography students eh? haha, there is actually a lot of requirements for country to be considered as a first world country. singapore, is actually still developing, and not exactly developed.

Gravatar april: well if that what's you want it to be called then so be it.
i don't think ppl in general would be that anal about terms as long as the point is point across

i guess LKY did have a reason why he wrote the book, from 3rd world to first.

Gravatar april: whilst its true there are a lot of requirements for countries to be considered first world, the worlds theory itself is way outdated. No one really uses the term in its formal technical sense anymore. It's been generalized.

Singapore is a first world country, and is already considered developed, based on more modern indicators, such as HDI, national income and economy, so Daryl is correct.

dp: definitely agree with you.
Its very unfortunate that there are still so many Singaporeans that hold on to their archaic mindsets, unwilling to accept reality or embrace equality because of fear, stigma or taboo.

hopefully Singapore will progress in the right direction soon. pinkdot is a monumental step that will pave the road for more to come.

Gravatar dp..yea u r really rite!!~

Gravatar Even in US, there are debates over the right to marry, euthanasia and abortion. Having such debates are a good thing because it shows that we are truly democratic.

And we should be hopeful because now that the issues are not covered up that people become more educated and enlightened as time goes by.

Gravatar Well said =)

Were you ar Pink Dot? Din see ya

Dennis

Gravatar i think everybody have the right to love!!...wat's wrong wif boy wif boy or girl wif girl??...they have their own feeling too!!~

Gravatar I know many people who are gay. They're perfectly fine =)

Gravatar thks for sharing the video, d.p.
I guess as much as we want the gays to be accepted in Singapore, we should also respect the citizens' view on them. I think everyone can have their own opinions and they will change it if they do feel the need to. So i kind of disagree with you on that...i myself am neutral towards the gay community..i neither support nor condemn them. I guess they have to accept that they are not only the ones with issues, there are other things in Singapore like unemployment, delinquency, poverty that also deserves as much if not more attention than acceptance of the other orientation. If they want to be different, they have to face the harsh circumstances cos ultimately, it's their own choice and no one forces them into it...it's just the way life goes...

Gravatar Came across the vid on a fren's FB acc. I guess being democratic means being given the chance to air your views - be they conservative or democratic. The Aware saga and this Pinkdot event are signs of us progressing slowly but surely towards utopia? First class or no class, it's like being in China, where I was recently. The people enjoy the trappings of modernity due to recent rapid devts but many r still trapped by spitting and brash behaviours of country persons - yet there are signs of extreme great retail service at the toll booths and in the malls - that IS progress! If China can, Singapore sure can one la! lol.

btw, did u take those travel pics yourself or are they fr photographers on your work stints?

Gravatar I.S., you got it all wrong. Being gay is not "want to be different", you are BORN different. So it is only natural that gay people want their freedom to love. Straight people don't have to deal with such problems. No one is asking for attention. Gay people are only asking to be treated fairly by the law and by the society.

Thanks for supporting LGBT dp!

Gravatar thank you all for the comments.
i don't deny the fact everyone would have their individual opinions regarding such issues.
it can only be the result of our upbringing, personal values etc incorporated in us, that's what make us uniquely ourselves.
but i just think that there is a group of people out there with mindsets so narrow that they believe that the world just revolves around themselves and every other little thing is equivalent to pushing the 'alternative lifestyle'.
come on
there's no pushing here..
no one is forcing a knife down ur throat, after all, this is a democratic country where different views ought to be heard and respected.
but where's the respect where views are slammed?

change is inevitable
and necessary for a country to progress...
the qns is, how soon?
i would say, eventual.

Gravatar in many patriarchal societies, the world view is "hetero is the norm". this can be linked also to some survival instinct for reproduction. religions with a patriarchal base, eg christianity also influenced and shaped western history as we know it. hence it is not surprising there are strong opinions that homosexuality is "alternative" / "misguided" / "wrong". I think in many instances, the non-pink hetero public truly think being pink is a lifestyle choice. They wish everyone can be hetero but they have fail to realise their world view is only 1 of the perspectives. Biologists will affirm that homosexuality also takes place in the animal kingdom! Whether we are born str8 or gay, is not as important as whether we are informed or ignorant. Applies to racism, gender studies as well. i wonder if there is a support group for bisexuality or not.

Gravatar hey daryl u look like kim hyun joong

Gravatar imagine a world where homosexuality is the norm and heterosexuality is not. and the majority gay people want u to be gay, because its the norm, how would u feel?

Gravatar NOTHING!!!~~just be wat u r!..then is done!!~u cant force urself to be one...and they cant force u if u r nt !!~

Gravatar well in a truly cosmopolitan city, views are respected, they are not imposed.

Gravatar sorry, p.fan. I apologise for labelling the gays as wanting to be different. yes, maybe they are born different.

i guess Singapore is not perfect in this aspect, but i think it's pretty great in other achievements. i don't really think the straight people wants the gays to turn straight either, just that it takes some time for others to accept someone who are born different from the conventional.

changes in mindset will take place sooner or later, it may be baby steps, but it is better than not moving at all. this is really a sensitive issue, so i really apologise if my comments is upsetting or insensitive to anyone.

Gravatar Mr. Pan, I laud you for posting this. I'm sure it took some courage on your part. Honestly. But allow me to second the sentiment voiced by 'anon' above. From my own perspective (US-born, JP-resident), just for your reference, some of the comments in the video sounded oh so condescending. Imagine, if you will, people saying, "Oh, yes, I know a straight couple. Fine people."I have a straight friend, and we get along fine." Or, "One of my best friends is straight. It seemed strange to me at first, but now I have no problem with him." Anyway, that's my take.

And though I'm afraid it may distract/detract from the feigned detachment of the above comment, I can't help but second your friend Alaric's assessment of you as "Daryl so hot"!!! Well, I suppose if David Beckham can acknowledge and enjoy being a 'gay icon', maybe DP can too . . .

(Hot or not, I also get the impression that you are a kind human being. Best wishes)
