Bob's loss is certainly being felt by all those who knew him, as well as by those at Nielsen Business Media. Bob brought me and my company (FuelDog) in as soon as he took the reins at Nielsen (VNU) to act as a change agent when it came to breaking down the silos you refer to and becoming a customer facing, marketplace-centric organization. It was impressive watching him work. He had a terrific, common-sense approach to business and he was driving the organization forward by sheer will. It is going to be hard to replace him, and my guess is that the next leader will not have the vision that Bob brought to the party.
