beep!

Gravatar One day I'll get round to writing my (incredibly similar) version of a noise tale.

And, you're right, it does stay with you, and remain a concern.

Even now we've moved into the near middle of nowhere (well, as near middle of nowhere as you can be within 40 miles of the capital), there are still noise issues.

I think it's lack of consideration and the 'want want want', 'me me me' culture that has evolved that causes people to believe they can do anything they like and sod the rest of humanity.

Gravatar Synchronicity: the blogpost I read just before yours was this.

Gravatar Shurrup grandad!!

Gravatar One of the hats I wear is 'person from the council saying there's nothing we can do', and believe me, it breaks my heart. It just astonishes me how bloody inconsiderate some people are.

Gravatar Thanks for your support, Rob.

Gravatar This is nightmare of living in London, somehow I've been here twenty years and avoided it so far.

As others have said, it never ceases to amaze how incondsiderate some people are.

Gravatar Shurrup grandma!

Gravatar I know exactly what you mean about it effecting you, I empathise totally.

I moved to Nottingham 10 years ago as a student and, luckily, managed to get a council flat (in a high rise) in my 3rd year. The council had just spent oodles of money redeveloping the flats and I was the 2nd person to move in. Everything was brand spanking new and it was my first 'real' home after all the student digs.
Anyhow, not long afterwards, a guy moved into the flat below me and thats where all the problems started. He had DECKS and those bloody 5 foot tall speakers aswell!!
As I said I was in my third year and it was revision and dissertation time. I was also working part-time and so tired. I would have early nights so that I culd get up at a decent time and get some studying done. However, I would be woken up at 3, 4 5am, when he got back from gigging and would crank up the decks with his mates.
I tried to reason with him and, fortunately, he was an amiable chap and kept it to a decent volume. The weekends were the worst as he would have all his mates round and practice on the decks. Of course, with the volume being so loud his mates couldn't hear themselves and so would shout to each other.
I was living in hell. Like you I got really depressed and this was compounded by the stress of studying.
Then one day, it stopped. Nothing. Nada.
For weeks I didn't hear a dicky bird; in fact I did, outside, as his music wasn't being played I could hear the birds sing again!
I bumped into the guy in town one day and mentioned that he was being incredibly quiet. He said he was evicted for non-payment of rent! I said he was a naughty boy but really, inside, I could have jumped for joy.
Not long after all this, a new person moved into the flat below. I was alseep in bed one night and got awoken by their noise. Like you mentioned about the panic and irritation began to rise within me. It was actually their television in their bedroom, which is directly below mine. Nowadays, I have some ear-plugs when they watch TV in bed. It's not nearly as bad as the guy with the decks and the plugs allow me to get a good nights kip, but their is always that bit at the back of my mind when I hear some heavy bass or BPM.

Gravatar I know where you're coming from. When you said "it's the bass that gets me" that's exactly how i feel about my neighbour - a DJ-in-training, I suspect that I'm his only audience. So far I've stayed sane, and we're civil and he turns it down when I ask, but it's crazy. Glad you sorted your situation.
