because 24 hr motorway services should be just that. open 24hrs. the big wimpy sign was lit as we drove into the car park thereby getting us excited. they should turn that fucker off when they close.

as the 'front of house' guy for wimpy, yes he had to suffer. it's not like darren went up to him and yelled in his face. the see through shutters were down and we walked past as he was mopping the floor and darren shouted "...and you can stick your burgers up your arse". i'm sure it amused the youth.

I'm glad it amused him. As you know dave, I try to be very supportive of the low-paid, even if it at times upsets the much higher-paid. Low paid people have an awful life, yet they are of course human.
Abuse is rarely a Christian thing.

remember peter, i'm a civil servant and my salary is way under the london average and just about meets the national average. i live in london which is one of the most expensive cities in the world so money doesn't go very far. ok, i share expenses with my partner, which helps us both, but we are by no means wiping our arses with ten pound notes.
i love the low waged folk of this country. i'm a grafter and have worked since leaving school. and before that i had paper rounds (morning and evening AND sunday mornings). my mum was a shop girl, then a dinner lady, then a care assistant in an old folks home (basically wiping up their shit and feeding them and dressing them nicely when they died). my dad was a coal miner. as for the low paid having an awful life, well, it's not exclusive to just them.

I am *so* sick of hearing all the "Oh poor me, I'm so hard up, I'm so badly paid" stories from people who won't get off their bums and do something positive to help themselves or improve their life choices. I guess it all boils down to attitude though. If you have a chip on your shoulder, it's hard to get rid of it. It's easier to turn it into a boulder.
There are *always* ways of bettering your lot (and I don't mean financially, necessarily; for many people re-evaluating and re-prioritising can be more rewarding), however bad a situation might seem.
As you imply, everything is relative. It is too easy to judge on appearances.
