Wow. A terminal case of Log-in-the-Eye disease. If sexual abuse is systemic in the Catholic Church, then it must also be systemic in the Protestant Churches. The problem can't just be that humans are sinners -- no, the root of the problem can only be that people believe that Jesus is Lord. By surrendering their wills to God, Christians open themselves up to being sexually abuses by their clergy -- because Christians are required to turn the other (butt)cheek and accept all things that happen to them as God's will. Yes, there is something systemic about all forms of Christian faith that cause Christian homosexual clergy in the Catholic and Protestant churches to molest children. Kevin's argument is sound, and the only solution is for all of us now to confess, "Jesus is not Lord, He is not risen, the Bible is a pack of lies."

Or to put it succinctly, Kevin's "argument" "proves" much, much more than he realises.

Gravatar Dave,

But isn't it correct that bishops would still be shuffling pedophile priests around if it weren't for the media. Isnt' it true that when parents brought these claims to the bishops, they were basically told to shut up?

Why hasn't the pope removed a single bishop who enable this stuff? Even bishops who perjured themselves in depositions still hold their jobs.

Gravatar I don't know all the details. I think it is true that sin was exposed by the media in this instance. If the Church doesn't reform herself, then sometimes God will use the world to shame and judge the Church, just as He used Nebuchadnezzar to judge the Israelites when they went astray.

In any event, to say that this tragic sin and scandal was caused by the ecclesiological form of the Catholic Church is outrageous and ludicrous. it was caused by the sexual sin that was generated inside of each person who did these heinous acts.

Gravatar Well, Kevin, if I were allowed to comment on your site then I could respond there, couldn't I? As it is, all I can do is comment here and hope that you, out of the goodness of your oh-so-fairminded heart, will be kind and gracious enough to link your readers to it.

Gravatar I browsed the "reformedcatholicism" site and found it to be merely a cafeteria style viewpoint of what the church is in spirit and substance. There is nothing new there. It is protestantism all dressed up in Catholic clothing--nothing more, nothing less. I actually had to chuckle when I read the comment:

"We acknowledge that the Reformation was fundamentally a movement within, not outside of, the catholic Church. It was not a revolution, but a reformation; a reformation of that which has existed from the day of Pentecost to now: the one, holy, catholic, apostolic Church."

This is rationalization at its' worst and sadly does nothing but perpetuate heresy for truth. Obviously they do not know the difference between reformation and revolution or they are eager to re-write the dictionary and history. Tis' a shame.

Gravatar I read RefCath a while back, and found it slightly intersting, but also typical: The reformed Protestant atttempt at validating their church through a reinterpretation of the Early Church Fathers.

After browsing through it, I found it has started to develop the same tone as James Swan's blog.

Imagine RefCath without the fancy medievel font, the pretty pictures, put the posts all in arial block, and you'll have a slighly upgraded version of Swan's blog: Let's create a false notion of what this blog is about (under the guise of spreading the gospel) and spend the majority of our time trying to come up with creative methods to Protest, rant and vent about the same ol' Catholic (Latin-rite - the O.G.) Church.

Gravatar I think Catholics should cease to read and participate in RefCAth, as I have called on Catholics to do with Swan's blog.

Gravatar No doubt. If it wasn't before, it is a complete farce now, with these latest two pathetic posts blaming child molestation on episcopal Church government and the papacy itself (and the last two popes, personally, to boot).

Meanwhile, Episcopalians are welcome and treated with great respect there. A denomination that sanctions legal abortion and which ordains an open, practicing sodomite.

Corruption and sin will always be present in every group. That is one thing. But calling evil good and institutionalizing it is quite another. yet that's fine and dandy at RefCath, while the Catholic Church is subject to every damnable calumny imaginable.
