Gravatar This is awesome Dave. The Journey Home program is the only TV show I never miss. I think you will do great there. I know having a bit more stable income will be a blessing to you as well. I have enough trouble with raising a big family on my salary which I think is quite a bit higher than yours. God bless you and the Coming Home Network

Gravatar Congratulations.

Gravatar God is good.

Gravatar Dave I am very happy for you and your family.

Gravatar Thanks for all the kind remarks, above, and any more that may be made below. I appreciate them, and also particularly any prayers that have gone up for this apostolate through the years.

It is often a struggle in many ways to engage in this kind of ministry, but is also always a joy, to do what God has called one to do and to try to be a good steward of one's vocation. My trouble was always that what God called me to do presented financial difficulties, because many people do not think it is important enough to be worth any remuneration at all.

I am often reminded of the struggles that artists and musicians have gone through. They were made to engage in their art, but for most such people, they cannot make enough money to live off of: not even close. But they live for their art or music . . .

Those who are fortunate enough to have a calling in fields that are well-compensated should be very happy that they are spared these sorts of soul-struggles.

Gravatar That's awesome, Dave. I wish I had money to throw around. I do promise that the next book purchase I make will be one of yours. God bless.

Gravatar What a perfect fit Dave. I am so glad that your talents will be utilized on an even wider scale. May the Lord bless you in your new position.

Gravatar Dave,

I'm so so so so happy for you! You've been so faithful in your apostolate and have done whatever job necessary to make ends meet. It's wonderful to know that you'll be earning your living doing that which you do best.

Congratulations!!!

James

Gravatar My wife and I are happy for you Dave. Surely you are going to be a great asset for the Coming Home Network Intl. Congratulations to you and thanks to Marcus and Jim. God bless us.

Gravatar Really, guys; y'all are being too nice! How do you blush on a computer screen?

Gravatar I'm very glad for you to have this wonderful opportunity. It's always nice when your passion can intersect with your career, although I think most people never quite get there. If anyone deserves to find that sweet spot, it's you!

Gravatar Congrats! God is good

Gravatar I need to make arrangements to see/hear this show, so please give us a heads up of when you are on.

Gravatar Dave:

Just a thought!!

You are obviously a man of great talents and I often marvel at your writing, research, and presentation skills. With these in mind, I have many times wondered why you have not channeled your skills towards some degree/advanced degree in theology or management. I think you deserve better - a more stable source of income.

You are one of my favorite Catholic apologists because of your astute defence of the Church and I wish you nothing but the best.

Gravatar Dave, dittos to all! I too wish I had money to donate. Your books are great and that has been the best I could do.

I am very happy for you and your family and think this will turn into something great for you and the many people you reach.

Gravatar Y'all are being extremely kind. I'll treasure these comments and am very touched and humbled by them.

As to Dozie's question: I have less than no desire to go back to school (it's been 25 years!). The main thing I needed was an additional part-time income. Royalties are pretty good. They couldn't provide all we need by themselves, but they are as good as can be expected in a small market.

I may be doing some advertising soon to try and sell more books: particularly the e-books because that is $14.26 or $14.11 profit for me with every sale.

Our family has cultivated simple living principles that help a lot. it can be done. If we can do it with a family of six and my wife home-schooling, just about anyone can live on what we have made (and if I told you, you wouldn't believe it). At least in the midwest . . .

We've paid our bills, have had generally good credit, and we are even paying down credit card debt (in early 2010 it'll be all gone and we plan on not having a credit card again). We are homeowners, and manage to take a really good vacation just about every year (camping cuts down costs quite a bit).

We really have just about everything we need. It was just getting hard at times to pay the bills, and that caused not inconsiderable stress so the new position was a great blessing.

Gravatar Congratulations, Dave! God bless!
