The Dawn Patrol: Comments

Thanks for the post. Again, false accusations flew with some mainstream media coverage. But when the accusations are shown to be false, there is hardly a peep. But why should we be surprised?

Great post. There is a remarkable amount of information exonerating Pius XII from the charges brought against him. It is noteworthy that many of those within the Catholic Church who peddle the lies against Pius are likewise dissatified with John Paul II in particular and even the idea of the Papacy in general. What a surprise.

This might be a lame question, but would they not return the children? Why would they think the Church as an institution would even come up with such an idea let alone making it "policy" so tp speak.hhh

Pansy,

Well, because it wasn't exactly unknown. In fact, a century earlier, the idea of returning a baptised child to non-christian parents would have been hotly contested by many Christians (not merely Catholics). This is only a controversy with children who have been baptised (which wasn't necessary or recommended in the case of Jewish children being sheltered by Christians during the holocaust).

For a story about an individual case where a Pope did support removing a baptised child from his Jewish parents you can read about the kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara (just don't read David Kertzers account, he is notoriously anti-Vatican). There is a good explanation at http://www.christianity.com/ part...D183427,00.html

And don't let anybody tell you that the papcy has a history of anti-semitism. If anything, the papcy has always treated the Jews better than the rest of Europe and the secular states. The Papal States (which were much bigger then) are the only European state not to ever have forcibly expelled the Jews - mostly because they have always been under the Pope's protection.

A lie can travel around the world in the time it takes the truth to put on shoes.
