Two great flicks to be sure. But I tuned in today hoping for something along the lines of "Come Alito Cloture to Me." |
|
You mean the Jay & The Americans tune? |
|
Yes. I think "Alito Cloture My God to Thee" might work as a headline, too, given that Sam is reputed to be Opus Dei and all. Just surprized you didn't come up with it first! |

Not positive, but I suspect the rhythm on the Tex Ritter track is provided by a washboard. It might help to imagine that in the background as y'all sing along. |

I find this little ditty to be typical catholic hyperhypocrisy. Who cut off Thomas More's head? Former Catholics. The whole point of your beloved movie is that More was the only Christian faithful enough to die among all the prominent Catholics in England. The rest were silent or flip-flopped when the political winds changed. Should we be surprised at this when their faith was grounded in politics, using the sacraments to hold people hostage, instead of knowing and preaching the Word? The RCC was plenty happy when Henry VIII was arranging to burn protestants at the stake (Tyndale, for starters). And what was his offense? Translating the Bible into English. Unless you speak Latin, you would'nt be able to quote a single Scripture today if it weren't for the protestants who DID NOT TAKE THEIR CUES FROM ROME. Protestants who were the true successors of the Apostles, Augustine and Aquinas and who loved the Word were burned, drowned, tongues and flesh cut off, etc. for centuries and yet you single out More as an example of Catholic victimology? Sir Thomas More was a true Christian who was willing to die rather than approve of another bogus divorce. But this just means that he, a man who had lived by the sword (prospering when he repudiated Luther on behalf of Henry VIII) had a price to pay when the sword turned on him. I admire the man, but that's what you get when you mix up church and state (a la RCC and Church of England, etc.). See John 18:36 and Romans 13 on the responsibilities of both christians and government to God. |
