Colleen,
Don’t be a Cuckoo or a Loon. I did not commit a Cardinal offense; at worst my transgression was Mynah. Wren I did it, it was just a Lark and I did not Crow about it. In any event, Owl not do it again and Osprey that you will Geese forgive me. Kiwi be friends?

Ah, distinctly I remember,
It was two months past December
And the Atheist kept producing from his usual stock and store.
Eagerly his talons honing,
Soon he had us all a'moaning
From his puns, a horrid groaning,
Groaning to our very core.
Respite, kind sir! Do not further carry on this wordy war!
Please quoth, Ravin', "Nevermore!"

Perhaps if you pray thusly I will convert:
Our Feather, who Lark in Heaven, Swallow be thy name.
Thy Kingfisher come, thy Bill be done, Heron Earth as Ibis in Raven.
Gizzard this Jay Owl daily bread, and Corvid us our Thrush Thrashers, as we forgive Crows Hoot trespass against us.
And lead us not into Wren Quail Tern, but deliver us from Emus.
For thine is the Wingdom, the Plover, and the Lorry, for ever and ever.
A Hen.

Originally I was going to say "forgive Crows Hoot trespass Albatross," but I thought that would be too much of Ostrich.

One of my favorite punch lines to a great joke: Stop! You cannot take gulls across stately lions for immortal porpoises!
RNG- Didn't you borrow from Tom Lehrer? I used to sing the hunting song in performances.

I borrow not, though Poe may complain.
The only Tom Lehrer I sing on a regular basis is "Poisoning the Pigeons in the Park" which come to think of it might be an appropriate verse to pilfer for this thread.

For Rachel Rose, from Tom Lehrer:
Spring is here, a-suh-puh-ring is here.
Life is skittles and life is beer.
I think the loveliest time of the year is the spring.
I do, don't you? 'Course you do.
But there's one thing that makes spring complete for me,
And makes ev'ry Sunday a treat for me.
All the world seems in tune
On a spring afternoon,
When we're poisoning pigeons in the park.
Ev'ry Sunday you'll see
My sweetheart and me,
As we poison the pigeons in the park.
When they see us coming, the birdies all try an' hide,
But they still go for peanuts when coated with cyanide.
The sun's shining bright,
Ev'rything seems all right,
When we're poisoning pigeons in the park.
Lalaalaalalaladoodiedieedoodoodoo
We've gained notoriety,
And caused much anxiety
In the Audubon Society
With our games.
They call it impiety,
And lack of propriety,
And quite a variety
Of unpleasant names.
But it's not against any religion
To want to dispose of a pigeon.
So if Sunday you're free,
Why don't you come with me,
And we'll poison the pigeons in the park.
And maybe we'll do
In a squirrel or two,
While we're poisoning pigeons in the park.
We'll murder them all amid laughter and merriment.
Except for the few we take home to experiment.
My pulse will be quickenin'
With each drop of strychnine
We feed to a pigeon.
It just takes a smidgin!
To poison a pigeon in the park.

I never made the connection before, but I think Dawn may have stumbled onto something: there is something bird-like about Cheney's face. Maybe he resembles some cartoon version of a bird that I can't quite dredge up from my memory. Maybe somebody else can pin it down.
Is his evident bird ancestry a part of the reason that he tries to stay out of the public eye? And is it possible that this incident was no accident at all, but a message to bird-hunters everywhere?

Maclin, it's my weekend, so I'll dare you to do the legwork and put on your Caelum et Terra blog a "Separated at Birth" of Henery Hawk and the Cheney "choking" shot in the "10 Ways Dick Cheney Can Kill You" image linked atop my blog.

Dawn, I didn't see your note until late Friday night. Will do that if I can get time. I think there may be multiple resemblances: juxtapose this, for instance, to your Daily News cover. If you mirrored one of them so they were at the same angle...?
