Most of the time I'm a lurker, but I wanted to say that I'm very excited for you! May God give you everything you need for things to go well this weekend, and I hope you'll be free from "shakiness"--that's what my Californian friend who teaches RCIA said he was going to help his students with! It's really very thrilling to hear about people coming into the Church, every time it happens.

Dawn,
1) Congratulations on entering into full communion with the Church (well...soon)!
2) Both Chesterton and Lewis rock! (They're 2 of the 3 guys from whom I have random quotes spewing forth all the time on my site. The other is Aquinas.) In fact, I have that exact quote (regarding an atheist being careful about what he reads) as one that pops up. :)
3) Your site is really cool and well designed! I'll definitely be back for more!

God Bless you Dawn.
The Catholic Church should be rightly proud of commitment you now finalize.
Easter is more rewarding knowing the flock grows.
New converts always seem to bring a zeal to their witness that teaches us cradle Catholics the real meaning of commitment to Christ and his Church.
P.S. On a side note, I was reading a blog called Majikthise, It seems she has posted comments on your April 11 piece entitled “just wondering” were you propose a thought experiment concerning French kissing to highlight your views on birth control and human sexuality.
(the link can be found at)
http://majikthise.typepad.com/ma...omment-
16140400
(I offered a rough defense of your experiment and have posted it below…..)
(I also though you may find some of the references usefull)
I was reading Dawn Edens piece that was linked to, and thought it pertinent to comment. I believe the point she makes is more metaphysical then biological.
The idea, (in my understanding- and its one I subscribe to) is that the nature of the sexual act with birth control as apposed to without birth control, is one of kind not degree.
This phenomena is magnified as an entire culture succumbs to the notion of sex under a regime cheap, reliable, female controlled birth control.
If one is truly interested, the works of scholars like Robert Michael at the University of Chicago, or most prominently, Nobel-prize-winning economist George Akerlof of the University of California at Berkeley – use an economic model to show how the introduction of the pill dramatically restructures our concept of human sexuality and its value.
To be curt, one can accurately say that sexual intercourse is seen in contemporary society as essentially recreational rather than procreational. Indeed, this is a dramatic departure in terms of human understanding of sexuality. I believe Dawn thought experiment is helpful in highlighting this significant divide in peoples understanding of intercourse.

Hi Dawn,
This Lutheran would like to congratulate you and wish you the very best. My sister converted to Catholicism eight years ago and I attended her baptism and confirmation. It was beautiful and very moving. Our father had just passed away and it was a difficult time for us, so the confirmation service was somehow very comforting.
Sadly, my sister has fallen away from the Catholic Church and belief in general. I pray that she will one day get her faith back and return to the Church.

Praised be Jesus Christ!
I entered Holy Mother Church three years ago, and have never looked back. One thing I remember above all: how starved I was for the Eucharist. I received Jesus every day, often twice a day. After three decades away from the sacraments, I needed as much of Him as I could get!
I rejoice for you, and welcome!

OK, now that you've crossed there are a few things we withheld from you that you are now entitled, as one of us, to know. We call these the Great Secrets:
So this high school boy goes into the confessional and says,"Bless me Father, for I have sinned. I had impure contact with a girl in my class. "
"Was it Mary Jones?"

Welcome into our family, as my mum also says when he ask if we can bring someone home, "the more the merrier!"
As for those who have family that have drifted from the faith (I include my own in this) also remember the stories of the Good Shepherd and the Prodical Son. I know that these two stories give me hope, just just for others but for myself when I feel lost, alone or confused.

Don't go there, Robert!
Well actually ... keep going! It's a good one.
---
Speaking of which, a recent law school grad needed to ask a priest about a vexing moral question. He went into his parish church and noticed the light was on over the Franciscan's confessional. "Father, I want to be a successful attorney, and I need to know if it would be a sin of covetousness if I said I passionately wanted a Lexus..."

your reknown spreads.
my daughter-in-law enters the church in MI this sat eve.
my nephew, dennis [one of your favorite seminarians] called her this week to congratulate her. in his conversation with my son, dennis mentioned that a friend of his - a former jewish girl - who was also entering the church. my son, nick, asked, "oh, you mean dawn?" dennis inquired how he knew that and nick told him "my dad has me reading her blog."
so we're all there with you on this one.
depending on which NT translation you look at, one of my favorite verses is in Gal 6:7 - it starts "DO NOT BE DECEIVED", and that says it all.
