Finally, at age 37, I will live in a place that looks like a grownup's home and not an overcrowded dorm room.
Sadly, my experience as a slightly older-than-you single is that my own "grownup's home" very quickly ends up reverting back to the "overcrowded dorm room" look due to the acquisition of more and more stuff and the lack of an on-going everyday incentive (wife, roommate, etc.) to keep the place continuously neat. It's all too easy to put the dirty dish in the sink, or the towel on the floor, or the books on the coffee table and say, "I'll put it away tomorrow," and it ends up sitting there for weeks on end.
An awful lot of brick and concrete in your old place. I hope your new place has some grass and trees and open space.
Nice pic though.

Oh, and one other piece of advice -- PAINT NOW at your new place! I've been in my condo four years now and still have only one wall painted. Now, in order to paint my spare bedroom/den I have to move some very large and very heavy bookcases. Ha, ha, ha, ha. Yeah, right. Oh, well. Maybe someday before I die.

It does. It's not the country, but it's a much wider street than where I live now, and the homes have a bit of green around them.
I did have the place painted before moving in -- it's got some nice girly pastel shades now.

So when the hip-hop community is talking about "The 4-1-1," they're actually referring to your apartment?
That explains everything.

What a cute picture of you! I swear, you look more like an undergraduate than a reasonably adult woman, Dawn.
Bender I am so with you. I have so much useless clutter, so many dirty dishes in the sink and socks on the floor that it is humiliating to have someone stop by unexpectedly. And I am a grown woman...

Well, paint now if you can open the windows to air out the place. . . .
It took me a couple of months because first it was too hot, and then, owing to a cold snap, it was too cold.
(At that, I've only painted two rooms. The one with the most furniture is the one that didn't get it.)

congratulations on getting your own place,i didnt get mine until age 29 because of new york's ridiculously high rents.
my advice to you is: dont do everything at once, youll go crazy.make a list of projects you want to do,things that make the apartment more livable and do them one at a time.but set a timetable;if you think,"ill do this project in six months" then itll never get done.

Congrats Dawn! I'm with you and Bender on the dorm room phenomenon. I've noticed that the times I'm most organized is when I've been dating. And when the room begins to degrade I can scarcely bear to invite friends over at all.
Now, let's hope some robot doesn't go crazy and kill all humans... =)

A robot would have to be crazy to not kill all humans.
